3. Which Zappa boots will make a fan out of me and where do I get them?
I heard one once and it was pretty interesting but I've never really given him a fair chance.

9. A Four-disc set called "Apocrypha" is your best bet...
If you're already a dedicated fan. If you can find it it'll run yuz about 150 shekels.

As far as tape trading goes, unfortunately, I have one or two:

Stockholm 1968 (no date given)
Brest, France 1979

but haven't been able to establish a Zappa tape trade tree. Jon Naurin's show list site (forgot the URL) is a very comprehensive list to work from when considering tape trades.

As far as the albums most likely to convert a Zappa newbie, I'd recommend:

You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore, Vol.1
Hot Rats
You Are What You Is
Lather

And if they hook ya, you can't go wrong with anything from then on...except maybe "Francesco Zappa". And watch out for the Ryko comps; I believe they're pretty sloppily compiled. Happy Zappa hunting!

4. Could you get 19 down by Midnight???
I was trying to get to the 2,000 mark right on my birthday, and I had a little less than 1,900 at the beginning of the day before. I worked my ASS OFF, and got 2,000 by 4am in the morning on my birthday. Just so I could get two seperate posts from newyawker on the same day.:D

10. "Outside Now." By far. The best. Zappa. Song.
But I prefer the one on YCDTOSA, vol. 4 to the one on Joe's Garage.

These executives have plooked the fuck out of me
And there's still so long to go before I've paid my debt to society
And All I ever really wanted to do was play my guitar and bend the string like: Reet tu nee nu nu ne nee-eee....
Wait! I've got it! I'll be sullen and withdrawn
I'll dwindle off into the twilight realm of my own secret thoughts
I'll lay on my back until dawn in a semi-catatonic state
And dream of guitar notes that would irritate an executive kinda guy

(low, abrasive guitar notes)

11. Seriously?
Big fan of most Zappa, but always laugh at Bobby Brown. Brings back college memories. That and Catholic Girls. Ah, good times.

16. Yeah, it's sad, isn't it?
There will never be another Zappa, just like there will never be another Beatles. The man was a force of nature, a genre unto himself.
