1. EXCELLENT! And (uh-oh) this 40 something LIKED the music, too.
Great graphics, down to the basics. Can we get the DNC to hire whomever put that together?

2. Rock The Vote made it.
So, all the content makes sense to you? The fact that Social Security will never go bankrupt? I certainly like that idea, but I don't want to automatically believe something I see just because it is "on my side".

3. Purity vs. pragmatics? The people in power are decidely NOT purists...
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 09:05 AM by blondeatlast
Methinks they are thinking like the RW noise machine.

To be honest, I don't know if it's provable either way, but it doesn't matter when you are trying to win a political game.

The RW noise machine doesn't insist on proof that something is true, they present it as true and average American never looks for veracity. If we on the Left are ever going to make inroads, we have to play on emotions the way the RW does.

We can argue whether the message is true, or at least verifiable, till we are blue in the face--and red across the country.

Purity vs. pragmatics? Well, I'm a pragmatist, so I'll let you figure out which I will choose!

Have you read the RW Noise Machine? It's a fascinating and informative read that goes into much more detail about how the machine works on the Right.

4. I do try to keep my own view on politics as pure as possible.
I like to have some sort of back-up when I see things like this before I start hailing it as truth, especially with things I find online. Anyone can post anything, you know? However, Rock the Vote seems to be a credible source, so I'm more inclined to believe something they put out. I just wanted to get some confirmation from other DUers about it.

5. Note that I hinted at my age. Are you in my ballpark?
I was very much a purist, too, of course I came of political age when Carter was running for re-election.

As I got older, and MORE politically active, that changed, as I think it does for many (though by no means all).

No need to reveal if you don't want to, but I do think it plays a role!

We need both purists and pragmatists, IMHO. For instance, The purists play defense and the pragmatists play offense, as it were. Each gives a little to win the game; AFTER the win, the infighting begins.

You can see it now in the Republicans; the fundy wingnuts vs. the traditional Repubs and party pragmatists.

6. Ah. I came of political age when Clinton was running for reelection
so, I guess I could say I'm still in my political youth so to speak. :P
