2. Mourning doves in Michigan
Terrible deficit to deal with, but thank God for a state rep who has made her number one crusade the right to shoot mourning doves in our state. Big time dangerous game, there. Looks like knockin' em off the wires while they coo will now become a reality. Actually, nothing against hunters - just that kind of limp dick hunting and political crapola.

3. Congrats!!
Eat up, and be merry.

How do you get the venison done up? Dad used to always get the most increible ring bologna and hot dogs made out of his venison. Haven't had them in more than ten years, but I can still taste both, and my mouth is watering just thinking of them. Had a little processing place in Sparta, WI that did it up for him with their own spice mix, and put in some beef or pork or maybe both. Gods, they were excellent.

7. I'm actually in NYC, but grew up in WI
But I don't know Twin Lakes. What's it near? Not ringing a bell.

And check out my "Hey, Rabrrrrrr, what did you have for lunch thread" - you'd be proud of me! I invented a dish.

16. Ah, yes - close to Lake Geneva I grew up
Sparta, which I mentioned above, is not.

I should have realized, you being in Chicago, you would know a) Lake Geneva, the city with 90% Illinois population in the summer, and B) The Dells, also with a high percentage of Illinois people in the summer, as you people fill up our highways with your Chicago driving...

(just kidding; though when I'm driving, and I yell out GODDAMN FIB! because some FIB just passed me on the rightside shoulder, I'm not kidding)

I even went to summer music camp at the Northwestern Military and Nval Academy, the same place that Damien attended school in Omen II. I was there a couple yearsw after the movie came out. In case you've not been there, I will describe - it is a long rectangle, all marble and stone like a capital building, and all the dorm rooms open up into the box and don't have doors, just curtains; at night, sound travels very well. Well, one night after light's out and after the room checks, one of my smartass calssmates said in a loud spooky whisper, "Daaaaaaaammmmmmiiieeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnn", and the whole place erupted in laughter. It was cool.

8. I keep the backstraps for me.
The rest goes to the butcher for 50 - 50 spicy sausage and deer hard salami. I use the backstraps for chili, chicken fried steak with white gravy, and my favorite is deer cubes butterfly'd open with a piece of jalapeno in the middle and toothpick wrapped with bacon marinated in Lawry's garlic and herb marinade cooked over charcoal. The whole neighborhood smells like a Greek restaurant. Serve about 20 of them on top of a bed of wild rice and everyone will like it.

10. It was 88 in West Texas yesterday.
We had to chop up the deer out there and put them on ice. Too hot to let them hang for a day.

24. .45 Colt Combat
I like it; dual safetys and has far less of a kick than the Walther .380 PPK.

Don't know about the tree since it was dead anyway.

I do know that the polecats and deer don't like the noise (My Aunt's 850 Acre farm nestled in a hollow amid Daniel Boone National Forest.)

Gov't model, Ruger, what kind? The suspense is killing me!

BTW sportsmansguide.com - I got 1,000 .45ACP rounds for about $120.00 shipping included!

18. Season starts here next Saturday
Modern firearms, that is. Passed on muzzleloading and archery this year. Knee problems.

Spent part of the afternoon zeroing scopes. Still undecided on which rifle to use.

Congrats on the spike!

Bambi is cute, but looks better in the skillet.

22. Bleeeaaahhhhh...
This thread is making me sick to my stomach. Tofu, anyone?

Honestly, I understand that meat has to be killed somewhere along the line, and, if you hunt and then consume what you kill I guess I can't fault you, but, jesus h christ, how do people get a kick out of killing a beautiful, majestic animal that feels pain? It's completely beyond me.

It was opening day for state residents. All the outtastattahs start tomorrow. Even the horses wear orange for a month now. I stay out of the woods except for Sundays.

25. Watch The Rookies
Edited on Sun Nov-02-03 07:32 PM by Don_G
I observed a guy on his first kill once stuff a Deer in the trunk of his brand new BMW.

I suppose he wasn't edcuated enough to understand the term "Rigor Mortise" (SP?) but must have had the money to afford a chain-saw to butcher it in the trunk of his car.

30. Ask me next Monday.
Pheasant & Quail season doesn't open until Saturday. We're supposed to have improved numbers of both this year so I'm looking forward to a good weekend.

The dog's getting frisky so he clearly knows the time is near.
