See pigs, cows, horse racing, Dick Durbin at Aug 17 Illinois DU meetup
DUer's are having a meet up at the Illinois state fair Aug. 17 in Springfield! It will be a joint meetup with some Chicago Democratic Meetup goers on Democrat Day of the fair. Democrat Day features a large rally with all the top politicians from around the state. Durbin and Obama were there the last two years and will likely be back again.

Come for fun, food, beer and hot fun Wednesday Aug 17 at the Illinois DU meetup in Springfield!

5. yeah, and my opinion is freaking right.
What happened when Boxer made her big show of opposing Rice? Rice still got appointed.

What happened to the Bush nominees that Durbin made a big show of opposing? You probably don't remember who those nominees were because THEY DIDN'T GET APPOINTED! So yeah, I'd say a guy who knows how to get shit done because he isn't too busy sipping lattes and collecting spirit crystals is a better Senator. And we don't even have to talk about Fienstien.

7. too bad he undid it all by proving that the Dems.
Have become gutless wonders;disgraceful performance. I can't defend feinstein, but boxer is great. when no one would talk about the Ohio fiasco, Barbara did, courageously. Obama hes been a disappointment so far- time will tell .

8. gutless?
Edited on Sat Jun-25-05 04:05 PM by Radical Activist
Was he gutless when he voted against the war in Iraq even though he was up for re-election that year?

Was he gutless when he made thoughtful and impassioned arguments in committee against many of Bush's worst nominees?

Was he gutless when he dared to speak against Guantanamo in the first place?

Has he been gutless on any actual issue or vote?

Apologizing to holocaust survivors doesn't make one gutless. When he backs down on important votes let me know, but I think you'll be waiting a long time for that to happen.

Boxer had a couple flashes in the pan but Durbin has been standing up courageously for years, and he didn't wait until a few months after he got re-elected, like Boxer safely did. It doesn't take a lot of guts when you aren't up for re-election for another 6 years in a solidly liberal state. I'm sorry to see you've bought into the Republican hoopla by focusing on his apology instead of the content of what he said about Guantanamo.

6. Too bad it's in the middle of the week
My sisters and mom live in Springfield and it would be cool for me to combine a visit with them and a DU meet up. I don't think I'll have enough vacation days available.

WARNING....Traffic along Sangamon Ave and Ninth Street can be a pain during the fair.
