This Morning I flew a Kite with my Dad...
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 11:04 AM by MrsGrumpy

I was feeling lonely and old this morning. It started last night as I bathed my big 6-almost 7 year old boy and put him to bed. Where did my baby run off to? It eked into my morning as I swallowed the pills that keep my heart beating normal, my stomach on an even keel and my immune system boosted...

...and then my dad took me out to breakfast. It isn't often I get to spend much time with my dad. He works nights, and my mom is a mover and a shaker, never wanting to sit still or visit on weekends. Today, I got my dad to myself.

After breakfast, my dad asked,"Wanna go fly a kite?" Ever since I was a little girl, and now into his 60's, kite flying has been a passion and a form of stress relief for him. Most times it was/is a solitary pastime. I was delighted to go.

We went up to the park and he pulled a small kite--"it's not breezy enough for a big one"-from the collection he carries in his trunk. I threw it up in the air...and it caught, along with my breath. Higher and higher it flew as I shaded my eyes and watch an expert at work. I was again 6...he was again the young man who was my first hero... We watched it dip, and flutter and circle around. Children on the playground giggled and pointed. And then as we pulled the kite in and it fell back to earth, I fell back to reality.

But for a moment, a delicious, teensy tiny moment...I did not feel old at all.

Thanks Dad, for a wonderful Birthday Gift.

I wish you all could meet him.

4. were you wearing a wedding dress when you did it?
that's kind of weird.

Happy Birthday! Never let yourself feel old. I have friends from Sweden visiting, a married couple, hubby is 72 and I'm having a hard time keeping up with them.

A couple of years ago I was visiting my Mom and she dragged me off to this Party Time Playground thingamie she had read about in the paper; with the slipper slides and merry go rounds and bounce room, etc.

The article was a misprint - it was supposed to say "for non-adults", but instead said "for adults". My fastidious mom had clipped the article and got into a fight with the guy at admissions insisting that it was for adults because it said so in the paper and that she should be allowed to at least jump around in the bounce room for a few minutes. Personally, I was just hoping an 8.5 Richter scale earthquake would open a large crack in the ground and swallow me, but now that I look back on it it was pretty funny.

No she didn't get to bounce, and she grumbled about it for the rest of the day.

10. Thanks Very Much!!!
I love that picture. The amazing thing is, I am fascinated with anything that can fly through the air...and yet I loathe flying myself. But put me in Detroit Metro's parking lot and I can watch the planes all day.

13. I want to learn to fly. It's prohibitively expensive. Maybe I'll just
learn to glide.

When we were at the Outer Banks last month, I asked the guy in a kite shop if there was a weight limit on hangliding lessons. There is, and I exceed it by 50 pounds. Right now, that is.

16. You are much more adventurous than I. I'd be the silly gal hung up
in the tree...like a kite. ;)
