Cheap digital cameras?
I'm thinking about getting one of those cheapy digicams, like the "3 in 1 Jazz" and Vivitar models which have internal memory. I hear they can hold around 50 photos internally, and that's more than adequate.

My good camera was stolen, and I'm kinda tapped at the moment, but I really miss having a camera, and I don't want to get back into that whole paying for film/processing thing again.

So, has anyone here purchased one of those cheapy, under $50 digicams? Any thoughts?

Note: I am in no way an artistic photographer... a point and shoot way to document an event is all I need. I don't need features, or 2.0 Megapixels, or anything fancy. Just a digital medium I can tranfer to my PC via USB or firewire.

1. I got a good one at Wal-Mart for $40.
Can even take movies (about a couple minute's worth) with it.

2. if you can go up a bit, get a coolpix...it's by nikon.
very simple, point and shoot. I have a 2100, the second model. I think they are on version #3 or 4 by now, it was $99 @ target. I got a 128 mb card and have yet to fill it on an outing. I took some pics tonight of my kittens (you may have seen the thread, you can see the quality) and I ended up taking about 40 in 10 minutes. So, fifty may sound like a lot, but I am also a bare bones photo person, nothing fancy, but I routinely need more than 50 pics, esp. if I go on a hike or something like that. oh yeah, I also got 4 rechargeable AA batteries and a plug in charger for about 40 bucks and am now never without power, charge all four at the same time, carry the extras with the camera. (it takes 2)

JMHO. :-)

4. That's what I got, a Coolpix 3700
Like you, I wanted a good reliable brand name but not all the bells and whistles. The Coolpix had a $100 rebate and I found the camera for $217 (before rebate) at www.ibuydigital.com a few months ago. My friend touted me on that site, saying it had good prices. The camera is great and I received my rebate check in early May. I'm not sure that rebate offer is still available on the 3700.

3. If you are out in the sun
they over-over-over expose with no way to f/stop down. And if there is no viewfinder, you can't see a damn thing with even a little sun. Same problem with digital stuff on aircraft, although some fixes have been made.
