4. Drink Ho
I stray from the beers periodically. Can't seem to remain faithful. *Sigh*

1) Pilsner Urquell
2) Guinness
3) Hornby's Dark Cider
4) Old Peculiar
5) Woodchuck Granny Smith

 that's all I can think of right now. These are what I get when my standard oaky, smoky red wine isn't available.

23. Guinness here too.
I avoid ale, although some of my old faves were ales.

Now I stick to:

1. Guinness
2. Pilsner Urquel
3. Sam Adams Lager

They are all from my (near) my hometown in Germany.

14. Goldene Gans is very good. Hasenbraeu is Kopfschmerzbier
Hell, Hasenbraeu is almost as bad as Augustabraeu!

They used to sell Goldene Gans in front of the Rathaus about a block down from Koenig von Flandern. 8dm per liter. I was very upset when they quit selling it there, because the only two places that I know where to get it now are at the small vegetarian restaurant over by the Hasenbrau brewery and some small beer garden that is on the Wertach. Neither one sells Masses. Do you know a good beer garden to get Goldene Gans? Or a good Beer Store that carries it so that next time I am there I can get a case?

17. The only place I know where to
get Goldene Gans is at the Goldene Gans brewery, next to Sankt Ulrich. They have a great lunch buffet and a very pleasant Biergarten.

Are you there right now? Chek out the new Stadtberger Hof. Very avant garde menu with a wonderful beer selection.

7. That's a lotta' beers
1) Spaten Optimator
2) Jubel Ale
3) Snow Cap Ale
4) Full Sail Winter Ale
5) Full Sail Amber Ale
6) Terminal Gravity IPA
7) Fat Tire IPA
8) Bridgeport IPA
9) McMenamins Hammerhead Ale
10) Black Butte Porter

In general I like the winter ales best, they are nice and malty and *powerful*. Regular ales and IPAs are great for the summer when a hoppier finish goes well sitting outside at a pub. I used to like porters a lot but not anymore, they are a little too sweet and heavy. I am lucky to live in Portland, micro-brew capitol of the world!

Never drink canned beer.

50. explanation
Sorry, somehow I forgot to explain my choices yesterday:

Grolsch - not much to say here

Budweiser - Chzech Pilsner at it's best
Flensburger - Northern style German Pils, cult
Berliner Pilsener - The Berlin beer of choice
Pinkus Alt - hard to get, but it shows how an Ale ought to be brewed. (not widely known: the brewing styles in western Germany, Alt and Kölsch, are a lot like English or Belgian brews - for some reason they're not sold outside that region in high quality/quantity)
Wernesgrüner - solid, mild eastern Pils
Dithmarscher - Northern Pils, IMHO better than Flensburger, but lacking the cult
Köstritzer Schwarzbier - The best widely available dark lager
Tucher Alkoholfrei - One of the few drinkable alcfree beers around.
Pelforth Blonde - This French brew is fantastic - it doesn't travel well (does any beer?), but is a one-of-a-kind brew.

16. 1) Widmer Hefeweissen
Not necessarily because it's the best beer (it's damn good) but it's my favorite, everyday, keep around the house type beer. Even people who normally don't like beer like this beer...in fact everybody finds this beer pleasing.

2) Bridgeport IPA

Now THIS is my favorite beer...kinda citrussy at first, with a strong full-pallete attack of hops at the end.

3) Black Butte Porter

The milkshake of beers. This one's a meal in itself. Heavy, sweet & smooth. It's good to cook with as well.

4) Saxer Lager

Nice musty German-style lager that's light enough for everyday drinking.

5) Koestritser (sp)

Nice musty German-style lager with a big big flavor that'll knock you on yer ass.

6) Old Market Granny Smith Ale

Not appley at all. I was determined to hate this beer until I tried it.

the rest are more Portland microbrews - too many to describe - and 90% of them are excellent.

19. Okay...
Guinness. Rich, creamy, velvety, full-bodied, etc.
Newcastle Brown Ale. Crisp, clean, excellent in general...
Bass Ale.
Double Diamond Original Burton Ale.
Samuel Smith Lager.
Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout.
Theakston's Old Peculier.
Samuel Adams Octoberfest. (better than Beck's, in my opinion)
Rogue Shakespeare Stout.

And I'm sure there's a #10 somewhere, but I can't think of it at the moment...(you might notice that most of these are British...this is because German beer is overrated and American beer is bloody horrible swill, for the most part...)

47. I spend a lot of time in Cleveland...
Whenever I'm there, I pick up a case (okay, four bags) of Straub. Yeah, Cleveland's got Great Lakes and Crooked River, but Straub kicks both of their asses.

Oettinger is, of course, the super-cheap beer I drank in Paderborn (Germany) when I was visiting a friend. I figured if I was going to give props to all my fave cheap American brews, I might as well recognize bad beer made by people who should know better.

34. Here goes.......but it really depends on my mood!
1. Leffe Brun - strong, gorgeous, sweet Belgian Abbey beer....brewed since 1240 (the year, not 20 to 1)
2. Batham's Bitter - fantastic, rare, sweet, light, beer from my local brewery in the West Midlands (UK)
3. Wadworth's 6X - great, strong, amber beer
4. Ruddles County - great, strong, rare(ish) amber beer
5. Old Speckled Hen - great, strong, widely available amber beer
6. Guinness - speaks for itself. My record is 13 pints in one day. Smooth, tasty, satisfying and not gassy.
7. Bishop's Finger - a darker, satisfying, slightly sweet beer.
8. Budvar - Czech lager (maybe pilsener).....nothing like Budweiser (thank God)
9. Stella Artois - refreshing, pure, sparkling, strong lager
10. Banks's Bitter - just because I grew up drinking it. It's a lightish bitter from the Midlands in the UK.

I like strong beers - I just feel that the flavour is far superiour.

It depends on my mood though - sometimes I like lager, sometimes Guinness, but generally speaking I'll drink good bitter/ale if it's available.

Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
Grant’s Fresh Hop Ale
Guinness Draught
Two Hearted Ale
Goose Island Honker’s Ale
Sprecher Special Amber
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Rogue Brutal Bitter
Terrapin Rye Pale Ale
My own homebrew

You'll note the abundance of the humulus lupus in most of these brews. Yes, I'm a hophead.

Sadly, many of these beers aren't available in my adopted state of Georgia. Either the brewers don't distribute this far south, or it's because of GA's lame-ass weak beer law. We're lobbying to get it repealed.

Caffrey's Irish Ale used to be on the list. Not available anymore. Coors bought the brewery, and rumor has it they stopped exports to the US - because it was in direct competition with Killian's "Irish Ale". Bastards.

Add on edit: Honorable mention goes to Samuel Adams Boston (Stock) Ale. Flame away...

Spelling may be a problem.

This stuff is good enough to warrant a trip to Wisconsin just to get some (add some fried cheese curds for nibbling, please). Can't get the damn stuff here in Texas. It seems there's too much alcohol in it to allow it in the state. So much for the macho image of Texans. Got to get back to Wisconsin soon.

The hops. That herbal, floral aroma and taste. No other beer can imitate it.

2) Sam Adams. Good all around reliable beer.

3) Anchor Steam. Same.

4) Kriekbier (Belgian cherry lambic) The tart, bracing taste of sour cherries with the punch of beer. Yum!

5) Goose Island. Hometown favorite

6) Pooh Brew, Eeyore's Real Ale ("Like a nail in your tail"), Piglet Stout and Heffalump Ale ("Because Heffalump is better than no lump at all"). Various homebrews I've made over the years.

7) Tree Frog Beer--the favored brew of the Freak Brothers.

9) BBK Babarossa on tap in a Chicago German tap like the Metro Club.

49. Beer! I knew I liked DU people!
How 'bout 2 lists, "everyday" and "special purhase only":

Everyday

1. Rolling Rock (Latrobe, PA) - clean tasting & cheap
2. Ice House - clean & strong & cheap
3. Yuengling Lager or Black & Tan (Pottsville, PA) - delicious and cheap

Special Purchase Only

1. Fuller's London Pride or Fuller's ESB - Ah, the taste of English ale...
2. Guinness Stout - I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
3. Troeg's (Harrisburg, PA) Nut Brown Ale - creamy & delicious!
4. Anchor Steam - rich, creamy
5. Kronenbourg - haven't had it in years, but nice clean taste
6. Stoudt (Adamstown, PA) Oktoberfest - better if you drink it on site at their celebration

Well that's only 9 - for #10, I like Amstel Light, because my dad always has it so its free (and yummy).
