Several varieties of potatoes are displayed in Lima, Peru
Underground economy
Several varieties of potatoes are displayed in Lima, Peru on Monday as part of a celebration for National Potato Day. The Peruvian government plans to promote consumption of the tuber as well as its industrialization to increase its value in both the domestic and foreign market. The potato is originally from the Peruvian Andes and its farming goes back to 5,000 BC. Up to 60 percent of the 4,400 existing varieties of potato are cultivated in Peru, whose International Potato Center has the world's biggest tuber genetic bank.

2. I was looking for some of those
purple Peruvian potatoes that I've seen in health food stores in the past. They are delicious.

I did not realize Peru was so big on potatoes, though..I love those things.

Hawaii grows a purple potato on the inside and white on the outside that is mildly sweet and also very tasty.

3. I had no idea either. I don't remember the source but I thought it was
here on the DU a few weeks ago about Mexico used to be King of the Corn. They had seeds for every condition of the Earths weather cycles. That was until the seeds were infected by America's Franken GM strains.

6. Right..I saw a pbs
special on Mexico and its corn and how the Mexican farmers were so distressed because of the infiltration of the mansanto genetically modified seeds.

It's a disgrace to the Planet.

They've got everything else and they want our food, too.

They're sure as hell working to get the water supply..I'll bet.

And yet there are people right here on DU who don't think gmo is a problem.
