1. Watch "Sometimes in April," too
It's a made-for HBO movie, and just came out on DVD. It's a good counterpoint to "Hotel Rwanda." "HR" is very insular, in that it is about a group of people surviving while madness explodes around them. The HBO film is the opposite: you see the madness m(the Hotel Mille Collines is also featured in the HBO film). Both are very good and very different.

Don Cheadle has always been a great actor, and I believe he deserved the Oscar.

2. He did do a fabulous job. I was just as impressed, though,
with Jamie Foxx's performance in Ray. A tough call for sure.

I had no idea all that went on at that time. I was probably in the 10th grade then and the only important thing to me then was "me". I wish more could have been done to stop all of those horrific killings. It just seemed pointless. Human life meant nothing, all because of a label. Just sad.

There was a part in the film when Joaquin Phoenix's character (the journalist)said we (Americans, Europeans, etc.)would watch his tragic footage, say "oh how horrible", and then continue eating our dinner. I thought that is so true. We tend to see that and realize it is sad, but do nothing.
