What are your latest, random thoughts on music?
Juliette Lewis really isn't a bad rocker IMO. The new CD You're Speaking My Language is a bit uneven and beholden to Patti Smith, but it does have charm. I like enough songs to buy it. B-

Kelly Osbourne's new single "One Word" is actually pretty enjoyable dance stuff. I may like the new album after giving her album Shut Up a C+.

1. I need some new blood to come into RocknRoll.
Or else I need to be turned on the the good stuff coming out today that I am not aware of. RnR is dead to me today. I have been digging lots of older, more obscure stuff from the late 60's to early 90's.

Dig a lot of roots music from folk, to blues, to country/western swing.

4. I'm not as cynical, because I hear fewer Creeds and
rap/metal around. Modern rock has become much less of a force on radio, but that makes me seek out stuff, too.

2. Juliette and the Licks are playing here tomorrow night
I was pondering going, because I have a friend whom I haven't seen for months, and I think she'd be into going.

The vids on her site make her look like a fun performer, and she has been on Steve Jones' radio show from LA quite a bit.

3. That Kelly Osbourne single....
What an amazing coincidence for her that she's excited about releasing an 80's tinged retro new wave album like she really wanted to do the first time, JUST at the same time that type of music is popular and picking up steam. I mean it's a shame that her first album wasn't what she really wanted to do and it was the record label forcing her to make a pop punky record also coincidentally just as female fronted pop punk was popular. But really THIS time she means it and it's what she REALLY wants to do and isn't just the record company pulling her strings like last time.

Sarcasm off.

7. Bauhaus was and is underrated
Too many imitators, not enough originality.

Was Alfred Schnittke right about the death of orchestral music?

Hip-hop could merge with bop jazz and become something truly amazing.

Every piece by Philip Glass sounds the same.

Green Day nailed it with American Idiot.

8. I like a song from Juliette's first CD called,
American Boy.

Which is on the new CD, but it's slower. I like the harder rock feel of the first version. :)

I also like the Foo Fighters new single "Best of You."

That and "Seventh Sign" are spectacular. Glad we could agree this time, though I love the new version too. The start of the new version really kicks things off. :hi:

13. Kay Starr is incredible--check her out!
Been buying 50s jazz female vocalists lately-- Ella, Sarah, Billie, Peggy-- but Kay Starr was just a name to me until last month. She is amazing! Billie Holiday called her the only white girl who could sing the blues. In the early 60s, Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee and --get this-- John Lennon all named Kay as their favorite singer. Dinah Washington said Kay was her best pal in the music business. Check her out-- my favorite so far is The One-- The Only, from the late 50s.
