WOW... I've never seen such a group of Crybaby, Whiney, Sour Graping, Prima Donnas, in all my years.... From the Boycotters who cried everyday because their pathetic choking teams didn't make the playoffs, to the non-sports fans who would hop into the World Series threads and claim that us er...sports fans are waisting our lives and that we should be sitting by candlelight reading Edgar Allen Poe stories to our Poodle!

It's a baseball game folks and the two best teams in baseball played in the World Series and one was left standing...Unfortunatly on the way to the WS the two teams beat some fine teams to get there, therefore dissapointing quite a few fans... Most fans took it with gracious sportsmanship, but as we can see on DU, most took it with the tears of a Clown.

3. Yes, there was an awful of whining
It was quite amazing. THough I also support the right and the desires of those who wished to boycott becuase their team got beat in the playoffs.

Hell, if I were that way, I'd be boycotting every year, since, like, when has Milwaukee NOT played like a shitty little team?

I'm sad the Yanks lost it, they are my adopted team, but the underdog lover in me is happy that a backwater poorly financed team managed to take out a biggie like the Yanks. That's cool.

It was disturbing to witness the lack of maturity from some of my fellow DUers over sports, totally out of the norm for this place. I could give you several examples, but it is kinda of embarrassing even now to rehash.

Trumad is 100% right, sadly.

Props to the Bosox, Yanks and Cubbies. This was the best WS championship ever.

On edit: syntax

7. Let Me Congratulate The Marlins Again
They have proven that money DOES NOT equal championships, and they beat out a lot of big-money teams to win the World Series.

Professional athletes are over-paid, but they're still labor. They make their money on their labor, not by collecting dividends or having a monopoly. I'm glad that the money that goes into the Yankees goes to the players. A WS ticket cost $176.00, but I'm thankful that a big chunk of that money will go to Andy Pettite.

Salary caps benefit the lazy capitalists that buy professional teams only to line their own pockets.

Angels a small market team where were they this year and in 2001? Where were the Marlins in 2002? I bet you dollar they don't make the postseason next year unless they spend money. The Yankees with the highest payroll has been in the postseason how many straight years? But the argurers of the salary cap don't realize that most teams don't use up the entire cap room and there are teams that are #1 in salary cap spending and #32 in salary cap spending. Even with a salary cap the Yankees would still have alot of their great players and still be successful.

5. Yeah, but even when people posted some innocuous threads,
Yankee fans came crying back.

Anyway, I'm just glad I predicted correctly.

And I think the Yankees have a tough road ahead of them--too many old guys--it will be a while before they're back--I think this was sort of the end of an era for them.

Now we can get back to the Simpsons!!!!!!!!!!!!

20. But Steinbrenner can AFFORD to buy new young players to replace the aging
Yankees.

Rumor has it they're interested in Todd Walker, Red Sox Second Baseman, who's a free agent right now.

I guess I'm outta the loop, cause I don't see very many of these whiners you're talking about.

Wherein Yankees fans tip their hats to the Marlins?

Maybe this?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=326220

Wherein a Yankees fan makes light of losing?

This?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=326253

Wherein BoSox fans were pissed off that their team, which got beaten by the Yankees who only turned around to lose, themselves, wasn't in it?

Perhaps it was this, posted by a jeering Yankees detractor behaving like a partisan Republican after the 1994 elections?

Yes, here's morning Yankee-fan whining:

ps - I haven't followed baseball for years and when I did, was a Mets girl all the way.

Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 09:18 AM by Crisco
At least I was paying enough attention to point out specific threads.

I haven't looked in the GD about this; what I see in the Lounge is about 70% gloating by Yankees haters, 10% Yankees fans bumming and 20% congrats to the Marlins.

Those 10% must really annoy you.

I need to put myself on a posting moratorium so early and w/out coffee. I thought the main gist was directed specifically to bumming Yankees' fans.

Sorry, Trumad.

9. As a Yankee fan
I'm not really that upset because the fish won. In fact, I noticed something on last night games which assured me that the Marlins are good sports. When Johnson slid into second base and got popped on the head I counted TWO Marlins coming over to make sure he was okay and gave him the tap on the back. I thought, well at least these guys play baseball propertly.

I also love the idea of, gee I hope it was Rameriz (sorry cant spell well) buying out an whole section in Florida so he could give it to a Boys/Girls club because of what they did for him when he was young.

I actually couldn't hate that team. I wanted another game tonight but it wasn't in the cards.

Now Marlins fans, you have a great team. Start putting your butt in the seats next year. Get those kids paid.

but they were 2nd worse in MLB averaging only 15,000 in attendance each game.

11. Well unlike Denver where the only thing to do
is snow cone eating contests, Miami has 8 million 400 thousand 333 more things to do with it's time. It's never been a good attendance town for baseball.... But what's that got to do with them winning the WS?

Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 09:17 AM by VermontDem2004
I was responding to the poster who said "Start putting your butt in the seats next year. Get those kids paid." so I decided to add that stat. It is the truth and not an insult, plus there is tons to do in Denver. Nuggets, Broncos, Rockies, head up north a little ways and you have the Colorado Buffalos. There is much more to do in Miami but Denver is not some dead town where everyone stays home.

He's a stellar catcher who was languishing in Texas. Glad he'll get a ring. I also loved that he kissed his pitcher.
