Happy Ending Pet Photo Essay (Warning dial-up users - Lg. images)
A few years ago, I accompanied a friend who wanted to adopt a cat, to the local pound. My husband was quite nervous about this, since I cannot go to the pound without "rescuing something". Sure enough, while she was browsing the cats, a goofy little mutt caught my eye.

(Sickly, abandoned wormy puppy awaits his morbid fate at the dog pound.)

I returned home and pleaded his case to my husband. He reminded me that we already had one dog and a few cats from that very same pound. I showed him the pictures of the puppy behind bars. He replied "We'll need another dog bed."

(Guinness the cat tries out the new dog bed. Puppy still awaits release from the pound.)

(HOME AT LAST! But alas, freshly neutered and wearing an E-collar!)

(Three years and eighty pounds later, our big boy Neptune (Shar-pei, German Shepherd and Great Dane mix) relaxes with his live-in lady love, Jupiter the pit bull, also a pound puppy!)

(Puppy love.)

1. What a beautiful family you have. I almost adopted another chihuahua
yesterday.

I'm staying away from pounds, rescue sites, and rescue organizations.

20. Don't you already
have 3? I seem to remember talking with you about how it goes with 3 doggies since I always have 3. So? How did it go? I remember the pictures too, they were sooooo cute! Why not 4, they are small? :hide:

15. Hahaha! OK
I thought I somehow provoked rage with my tale of puppy rescue. I wasn't sure how, but sometimes, I am really surprised at some of the stuff that pisses people off. :-)

5. What a wonderful love story. Lady and the Tramp could not outdo it.

Love the smile on the newly neutered lamp-shaded puppy. He was so happy in his new home, that even those hardships could not keep that smile from shining thru. Terrific family you have there. Wonderful pics. Thanks for sharing.

6. You're welcome!
My pets are the love of my life. I swear, if I had a huge ranch and unlimited acres I'd have rescued, like, a ZILLION animals.

7. Good for you, your babies are beautiful. I don't go to the Pound,
animals just wander into my yard, or cross my path and bingo, our family grows. Hubby claims I'm the big sucker but I swear he is even more soft hearted than me. Never wuld have married anyone who wasn't an animal lover.

Animal love is a must. My hubby is rather soft-hearted too, hence our menagerie!

9. what a wonderful story!
I just love doggie rescue stories like this, with happy endings! You can see the fear in his eyes in the first picture, and by the end, he is so happy and relaxed, especially with his lady love! Thank you for rescuing him and all the other little angels in your home. I have two rescue cocker spaniels and they are the light of my life. Such wonderful, loving, and precious babies to their mama! I love them so much.

16. They are great...
Yeah - it broke my heart too. I'm sad that I can't rescue them ALL, ya know? A lot of people were overlooking this particular dog because they feared he'd grow way too big. And he is quite large, but very very loved.

that face is the thank you for saving me face. His nuts were the least of his worries I'd bet!

You are wonderful for doing this. Gotta love the saved doggies, they are always so faithful. They know.

:-)

I think they do know they were saved. They are very loyal and affectionate - not to say that "non-rescue" dogs are not. But my guys definitely are love bugs.

27. We always have
at least one rescued dog. Our present rescued dog is tiny compared to our two retrievers and I can tell you she would take out anyone who tried to get into the house. They others would stand behind her in support but that little one is a terror if she thinks something is not on the up and up. The last one we had took a long time to socialize because he had been beaten and dumped. He would have protected all of us but he was my dog since I found him. He bit my husband several times early on when he got too close to me. They do know. They are all loving and faithful but there is the extra edge to those who know they owe you. They just don't seem to know that usually it is us that end up owing them. Give them an extra scratch for me please.

When I get moved to the farm I expect those rescue numbers to raise.
