5. Do they taste anything like carrots? Or are they more like a rutabaga?
I'm fairly sure they are unrelated to rutabagas - I just like using that word at every opportunity. It has so many possibilities.

8. Absolutely not. Parsnips are like turnips, and turnips
were poor people's food when I was growing up. Not that we weren't ALL poor around there, but at least some of us could afford the occasional package of frozen vegetables in the winter, after all the canned stuff from the garden was used up.

The REALLY po' folks couldn't, and had to eat turnips and parsnips and other root stuff until summer.

So no parsnips for me, thank you.

11. I have never eaten a parsnip
A turnip or a rutabaga. At least today in the Lounge I have learned what they look like so I can avoid them in the future too!! Not a big vegetable fan. I stick with carrots, peas and beans. Corn sometimes. I force myself to eat broccoli once in a while though I don't enjoy it.

13. a friend once asked me, in reference to Parsnips -
"Do you know the goal in life of the common parsnip?"

I did not and said so -

"To make turnips taste good."
