Tell us about your BEST friend in the whole wide world!
Aside from Paul, my life partner, my bestest friend is Kenny. I've known him since the first grade (we're 39 now and our birthday is only 3 days apart! Our mothers used to say we were just like brothers) and he's always there for me when I need something.

His mother once said the funniest thing when I walked into the house. She was talking on the phone with a friend of hers and said hi when I entered. The person on the other end must have asked who it was because she said, "It's Will, Kenny's boyfriend." Not meaning 'boyfriend' in a romantic way but a friend who is a boy.

He visits us every weekend and when we go on vacation he takes a week, too, and we travel around the state together.

Kenny is my best friend and I'm damn lucky to have him.

Who is YOUR best friend?

1. My big sister
I never really cultivated many friendships because I always had her.

2. My friend Beth
born on the same day, same hospital as me. Our moms knew each other, but we didn't meet until high school when we were 13 y.o. freshmen. She loves Nancy Reagan and Bill O'Reilly, but I love her anyway.
At least she's married to a diehard Massachusets liberal who has a HUGE picture of JFK in their front hall. It makes the Nancy Reagan hangup bearable.
:pals:

3. Dr. T., my wife ...
Absolute best friend ... ever. Smart (National Acadamy of Sciences member), cute (sorry, no pics!), sweet (likes all dogs), did I say SMART!?, and likes-a-hike (which is great here in the mountains!). Did I say she is still in Dallas? We have been married nearly 30 years.

4. my oldest friend is Jim
we've been monster movie watching, rock and roll listening, comic drawing, video game playing, pals since 4th grade. it's a 23 year friendship, and though we live 120 miles apart now, I still talk to him every day and visit him often.

My best friend is Mrs. McLargehuge. She's witty, beautiful, and everything I've ever wanted in a woman.

5. My best friends have kinda slipped away over the years
Dave and I have known each other for 40 years, grew up one house down, did everything together. Kinda faded away after I moved away and he got married and more and more fundy and winger-like. We just kinda stopped talking.

Phil and I were roomies and bandmates throughout our 20's and did lots of crazy fucked-up rock&roll type things together. We still talk a bit but don't see each other much any more.

So I would have to be cliche and say my best friend is and has been for 7 plus years, my wife. As it should be...

6. People...
let me tell you 'bout my best friend,
He's a warm hearted person who'll love me till the end.
People let me tell you bout my best friend,
He's a one boy cuddly toy, my up, my down, my pride and joy.

People let me tell you 'bout him he's so much fun
Whether we're talkin' man to man or whether we're talking son to son.
Cause he's my best friend.
Yes he's my best friend.

7. My frienda, Tyler and Brett
I first remember Tyler walking into Kindergarten with a Superman cape on, calmly taking it off, and putting it on the back of his chair like a jacket. Since I always dressed up as Batman, I thought he would be cool to hang around and went over to his house later that day to play superheros.

Brett used to pick on both of us. Brett was a problem child - in our soccer games which normally had 40 to 50 people on a side, he would pick up rocks and throw them randomly into the air to liven up the game.

We didn't really become the 3 Musketeers until middle school (Brett still denies picking on us - he was playing he said). Tyler and I were in wrestling together, and we lifted weights together as well. I was the class nerd (and if not the class clown, the sarcastic, quick witted clown); Brett was the class clown (and very well liked), and Tyler had the looks of Adonis and was very popular with the ladies, so it would seem like I was the odd man out, but we all wanted better things than what our small farming town and classmates had to offer so we stuck together. Since Tyler hung around me so much instead of going out - he could have dated any girl he wanted to - there was a rumor that we were gay - probably didn't help much when people would come upon us in the country lying on the hood of my car at night looking at the stars and just talking.

Tyler would also drive me crazy in that because he was so good looking all the pretty girls that we would meet wanted to only talk to him. We once went to an amusement park, and we all went on the logjam ride together. At the end of the ride, you get on a conveyor belt that takes you up an incline, and then you shoot down the other side (which has water on it). At the top is a little cage for a park worker to sit and make sure you're not doing something stupid like standing up. In it was a cute blonde girl who radio'ed down to the people taking tickets to stop us on our way out. We thought we were in trouble because we had been rocking the boat, but it turns out the girl just wanted Tyler's phone number. :) Tyler was the first to marry and divorce (Brett will never divorce, and I'm still single). I always felt that he was in a rush to achieve the American dream of wife, house, and good job. He's since matured as well as mellowed out. He's living in St. Louis in a house that's way to big for one person, but he's having the time of his life fixing it - he's very handy with tools.

Brett was never much of one for schooling. He went to a community college to get a degree in DJ'ing. Did that for a while but didn't like it. Took up with a traveling petting zoo for a while but quit after a couple of weeks then tried to immigrate to England to work in the music business (he's a natural musician). His travel agent didn't tell him he needed a worker's permit so he only got as far as Heathrow Airport before getting shipped back - after which he sued the agent and won - even though the judge insulted him all the way through the case. Then he decided to go to Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, and finish his 4 year degree, and he married a girl from his church in our hometown. She's 8 or 9 years his junior. They started dating while she was in high school, and he went to prom for a 3rd time as her date. They're now in Nashville but thinking of moving back to close to our hometown because she misses her family.
