[email protected]

So I hear you cancelled this show.. You lost another viewer

That was the LAST show I still watched on NBC..

and you wonder why you are losing viewers..??

Crap like Joey is OK, and a good show needs cancelling??

Your cumulative IQ must be in single digits:)

You could have at least had the decency to produce a "finale"..

Bastards !

3. Just emailed: see below
I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU, NBC. DESPITE OVER 20,000 SIGNATURES ON A PETITION, NUMEROUS POSTCARDS AND LETTERS, AND OUTCRIES FOR QUALITY TELEVISION, YOU CANCELLED THE BEST SHOW ON TV. AND FOR WHAT? ANOTHER REALITY TELEVISION SERIES?

"AMERICAN DREAMS" WAS THE ONLY SHOW ON YOUR NETWORK I TRULY LOOKED FORWARD TO WATCHING EVERY WEEK. SO, IT DIDN'T GET THE RATINGS THAT A SHOW LIKE "FRIENDS" DID. DOESN'T LOOK LIKE "JOEY" OR EVEN "THE CONTENDER" IS DOING ALL THAT GREAT. WHY CANCEL "AMERICAN DREAMS"?

YOU NOT ONLY GAVE UP ON A TERRIFICALLY WRITTEN, PRODUCED AND WELL-ACTED SERIES, YOU GAVE UP ON WHAT I DEEM AS THE LAST SHOW ON TV THAT PEOPLE OF ALL AGES CAN ENJOY. YOU KILLED "FAMILY HOUR." CONGRATULATIONS. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD.

2. I sent them an e-mail also.
I'm not a big network watcher to start with but with American Dreams gone all that's left for me on NBC are The West Wing, Law & Order and ER.

7. The plot thickens
I loved American Dreams! It was a bit like reliving my teen years every Sunday at 8:00. I was a LOT like Roxanne and a little like Meg. Had an older brother who barely escaped going to Nam, only to lose my favorite cousin, Bobby. Sad.

Last time the show was on, I sensed that it would not be back. In answer to the question of "why" it was canceled - think about the anti-war and racial themes, and how few people can relate to that stuff nowadays.

My only other thought is that the producers are getting nervous about the shows direction. Remember, Meg and her boyfriend are off to Berkeley, to join the Free Speech Movement. Whether this thread would stir people up against another unjust war, I dunno. Perhaps they were concerned that it would cause people to start making the inevitable comparisons.

The plot thickens ...

I'm new around here, btw. Thanks for the chance to speak.

8. Errrrrr....
I said: "...think about the anti-war and racial themes, and how few people can relate to that stuff nowadays..."

Present company excepted, of course.

I believe, as do others, that the broadcast television is carefully monitored for any shows that display "unpatriotic" themes. Indeed, AD could easily be considered a "leftist" show. Look how the mother recently began helping young men avoid the draft by going to Canada!

Yep, I'm sticking with this idea -- the the show was probably pulled because it does not conform to the current public mindset about war and family values.

5. I was in on the email campaign.
Maybe start a campaign to one of the smaller networks asking them to pick it up (shows crossnetworking has happened before).

6. Is that what happened?
My dad loves the show and I haven't seen him watch it lately so I wondered what was up. I think it's sad. The show seemed to be doing pretty good. :( The daughter is from my town (my dad's boss is her father). So I wonder what she's going to do now.

10. Sorry to hear that.
I'm an Arrested Development fanatic, and we're on the cusp of cancellation too. Ugh, it sucks to enjoy quality television sometimes.

16. I know. it sucks big time. You'd think the so-called "values voters"
would be all over the series, but they're too busy being hypocrites, watching what the shows they espouse as being trash TV.

You'd think a network like ABC Family might pick up the series, or Noggin for that matter. It's a real shame; the story lines are really interesting.
