My fiance is trapped in Atlanta... somebody console me
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 07:12 PM by belladonna
Dammit, I've seen him for a grand total of about 15 hours since Monday. I was SO looking forward to picking him up in an hour and now this

edited for crappy spelling

6. Oh, dear. The joys of travel. I'm sorry you're alone now.
Is the airline putting him up in a hotel and giving him tickets for free dinners? That's what they USED to do a few years ago, but now, of course, things have changed. Or is he stuck in the terminal? Try not to worry. My husband traveled 50 - 75% of the time during his sales career and there were plenty of screwups, believe me -- even in those days, before "organized terrorism".

9. Stuck in the terminal
Waiting for word on whether he can get another flight out tonight. Chances aren't great on that one, I'm afraid :(

15. When he gets back, and after you are a distance from this incident --
you might want to rent the movie "The Terminal" with Tom Hanks. It's not the greatest movie in the world, -- but you will live to laugh about this episode.

This happened to my husband once. The airline overbooked, he was kicked off, he found another flight on another airline, which got him home about an hour earlier than the originally booked flight!

I wish you well tonight. Perhaps the reason will be clearer soon.

17. Well, not being able to close the door clearly is a BIG issue --
I remember we were completely boarded at Logan International Airport in Boston. I was flying with my son to visit my parents in Florida. He must have been about seven years old.

I was terrified when they said there was a "maintenance" issue and they were waiting for a part. We deplaned and sat in the waiting room. I called my husband and told him I was hot, frustrated, scared, and I wanted to just come home.

He rationally and calmly told me, "The plane will fly fine after they do the maintenance. Just wait there and it will be OK."

A few minutes later, that's what happened. We all boarded again and away we went.

Nobody should ever question a maintenance hold. It's for our own protection and those of the crew. Would we drive our car on a flat tire? I don't think so...

19. Guess you're fiance made it -- or you're too busy to reply.
Hope he didn't turn out to be a "runaway groom" -- see top news today about "runaway bride" in Georgia.

8. Does he know why they took them all off?
And when the plane can take off again?

10. Nope, the best he's been able to figure out is mechanical problems
Everyone's trying to get something out of the airline, but they're not saying shit at the moment :grr:

12. Too bad he can't go sightseeing while he is here.
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 07:08 PM by RebelOne
Atlanta is really a great city and there are worse places to be stuck. I live in the Atlanta area. But I'm really sorry that he is delayed. But Hartsfield Airport is an interesting place, so maybe he will discover some diversion while he is waiting. There are some good fast food places there. Hope he gets home soon.

18. belladonna, we'd love to hear from you when you and your fiance
are reunited. Airplanes are amazing and we live in fascinating times. There have been recent TV stories about machines that will fly individuals in their own vehicles. I think I saw this on 60 Minutes, but not sure.

We're celebrating the Lewis and Clark trek from Missouri to Oregon --can you imagine what it must have been like BEFORE our present transportation system?

Lucky you, when you hold your sweetie again.

Warm regards from Radio Lady

20. How about this: this week was the one year anniversary of the
last time I saw my honeybunch, who lives on the other side of the world.

I say this not to make you feel bad for missing your honeybunch, but to say, "You will endure, and I understand the suckitude of your situation".
