Does anybody else (besides me) get into trouble for .......
....having a Sardonic Personality? (to much use of Satire)

I got into trouble today (again) because of my Sardonic personality.

I was at the store buying some new brand of cereal when the Cashier
asks if I knew the price. (It wouldn't scan)
I said "I believe it's 39 cents"
Man o Man, she got pissed and said "Sir, this cereal is a lot more than 39 cents".

I wanted to roll my eyes and say "Geez Lady, I KNOW it's not 39 cents".....I was kidding.

Instead... in situations like that I don't
say anything cause I don't want the other person to feel foolish.

And Damn-it...I do the same thing here on DU.

The other night when a poster said that they were not going to watch the Yankees-Marlin game, I posted that we all shouldn't watch the game
because I knew for a FACT that the whole team voted for George Bush.

2 people crawled my Ass for it saying something like "Quit starting some stupid lie"

I then found myself in the embarrassing position of either explaining that I was not serious or just do nothing.

1. Anyone else get into trouble for being sarcastic?
Nope. Just you. No one else has developed their sense of irony quite like you.

(Sorry. I am just a natural smart-ass.)

Answering your question honestly, yes. And it usually is with my wife.

3. Me
I used to be a real cynical smartass (im just cynical now)

But i tried to stop being sarcastic and ironic all the time when even my family started complaining. (my mom thought i was being mean to her since she doesnt know english that great and didnt undestand that I was just joking)

Anyway as i said ppl doesnt appreciate it unless theyre also sarcastic smartasses then you can have tons of fun.

One of my best friends in Highschool was just like me we had tons of fun commenting everything :D

11. I love meeting fellow sarcastic types
I met a guy once that my friend was dating...we got along famously. At the end of the night he gaveme his number and said "Call me sometime we could go hang out on Robson street and make smartass comments all day"

Three weeks later, before I took him up on it he went into a diabetic coma and died. Too bad real nice guy.

9. Oh yeah fucking constantly
It pisses me off, people can't understand sarcasm. So they accuse you of being negative...especially on DU.

But in life I have had so many people say shit like "DOn't be so negative" and "stop complaining"

When really I don't care...I'm just in it for a laugh. And to me that is the opposite of negative.

Like the time I was at the blood bank to donate blood and the woman was going down the list of questions and there was one about your weight...and how you had to weigh at least 100 lbs to donate... in my best demure tone I said..."Oh my...I don't think I meet the weight requirement" (clearly I did..)...and the nurse looked at me and said..."I think you do" in a really snippy tone.....

19. I don't use it that much 'publicly' any more; nobody gets it and
so it's a waste of effort. A friend of mine makes remarks like that all the time, and I'm usually the only one that gets it. He works as a cashier and sometimes gets in trouble with customers because of something he says.

20. I swung by the local Chinese take-out recently...
to order for the wife, kids, and myself. I asked for two orders of steamed dumplings, 2 orders of barbecued ribs, and 2 orders of cho-cho (beef on a stick) for appetizers. I then ordered 1 kung pao chicken, 1 beef with broccoli, and 1/2 Peking Duck as our entrees. The counter man asked, Will that be to go, sir?" I answered, "No thanks, I'll eat it here." I have always been an inveterate wise ass. (But as I am constantly reminding my wife, isn't that better than being an inveterate dumb ass?)

28. Not So Much In Trouble.
Mostly not-so-smart looks and gross miss-understandings. I'll give you an example. We are trying to increase the visibility of our co.s website. Just for fun I looked us up on Alexa and saw that in the last 90 days our site dropped 1 million places. Our business is seasonal, and we are a lot better then we were, so it was not that big of a deal (I thought it was funny). Well I went over to our Webmasters office and said, in tones and with body language that were dripping with sarcasm, "Man your not going to like this. We've dropped a whole million places in our web ranking." Man, would have thought I told a fellow DU'er that Faux just had a poll up that showed *'s approval rating at 95%. it went from "I don't give a shit" to "Ya right, were are they getting their data from" to "If I don't have a budget I can't do a whole lot". Even after I explained the humor to him, several times, he still didn’t get it. By the time or conversation was over, there it was. That not-so-smart look. I was almost angry at him.

33. Million dollar bill
I got a half dozen for a joke birthday gift.
Very realistic looking.
Tucked them in my wallet.
Out to dinner with my wife that night and whipped out a mill-bill to pay the cashier.
"Lordy, mister, I can't break THAT!"
"Lady, I wish you worked at a bank."
"What? Why should I work at a bank?"
Well, um...see...if you did work at a bank and you thought this was real then you'd HAVE enough money to break this and then I'd walk out a rich man and...
"Nevermind. It's not real. It's just a joke."

38. The irony-deficient make me tired
it appears to be endemic, this irony-deficiency. I used to have a test for irony-deficiency - I'd tell people, "If I win the lottery, I'm going to get my truck painted!" (said truck being 22 years old, and a cheap POS when I bought it new 22 years ago). The irony-deficient would always reply, seriously, "but you could buy a whole new truck!" Um, thanks for the clarification, there, Einstein.

39. I spent my entire youth getting in trouble for this
I was born a very strong-willed, sarcastic little girl to two people who are extremely quiet and reserved. I was constantly in trouble. However, now I find that I tend to bite my tongue 99% of the time as not to get myself into any trouble as an adult. At home, I can be a be sarcastic, but overall I'm not so much anymore.
