How do you cut a shape out of a photograph for use in another photograph?!

1. Lasso Tool
I hate the "magnetic" tools, so I do it the old fashioned way: with the lasso tool active, hold down alt or option to set points around the edges of the object to be cut out. It helps if you work at at least 200% magnification. It takes time and patience, but it yields the best results.

Certain images are suitable for quick-masking, but I don't want to throw too many details at you all at once.

3. Send me a PM so I can go through it
at more length tomorrow. For ultimate control, you want to use paths, but I am too tired right now (damn you, Boston!) to explain it in detail.

My average working day is about 50% Photoshop. Send me the PM, and I'll give you my email address. Then you can send me the file you're talking about, and I'll put a path in it so you can see how it's done and send it back to you.

4. Yes, the Pen tool is indeed easier, with some practice
I didn't want to throw bezier curves at the girl on her first day in the program! ;)
