I'm sure I'll feel better in the morning though.

4. I involuntarily woke up early this morning.
Maybe I should have gone to bed earlier. On thursday night I also only got four hours because I was excited about the weekend or something too.

2. Oh yes, sleep deprivation is the worst....
Makes you realize sleep is also important for the psychological rest it
gives you.

5. Sometimes.
It's a vicious cycle: Depression - no sleep - no rest - depression.

Then it's sleep - depression - sleep - depression.

Zoloft is my friend. :)

6. I have chronic fatigue syndrom
it's where one's brain can't manage to stay in REM sleep for more than a few moments at a time.

I'm always depressed, and I can't remember what it was like to really feel awake. I just keep hoping that science will come up with a cure (lots of people have CFS these days).

8. I have it too, and Fibro
but I'm able to manage my sleep with imovane and tryptophan. It's been a lifesaver for me...hate taking the pills, but I feel I have no choice.

Still doesn't work 100%, but it's much, much better than not taking anything.

11. Severe arthritis here--
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 09:46 PM by Shopaholic
and when I'm in flares--I don't sleep. And when I do, it's not the "good sleep". Interestingly, many doctors are now routinely giving arthritis patients zoloft or other anti-depressants to treat sleep problems which are pretty common among arthritis patients. I always know I'm entering a flare when my sleep patterns go haywire. And with the sleep disturbances come, yes, the depression.

12. CFS and fibromyalgia seem to go hand in hand
does the imovane and tryptophan also help you to concentrate during the day? That's becoming a HUGE issue for me.

14. Just by virtue of better sleep,
it does somewhat, but I still have fairly bad brain fog and find can only concentrate for short periods at a time. I also get the brain saturation thing, where I hit the wall and just can't absorb any more information, whether it be sensory or intellectual...

The thing that I've noticed helping me the most with the cognitive problems is acupuncture. It's free here for me through a physiotherapist up to a certain amount of visits, but they can apply for more funding for me, which they did. One of the needles she puts is the space in between my eyes.

I also take gingko, and noticed a bit of an effect (this was pre-acupuncture). Mind you, I cannot work, and am alone most of the time, so the most concentrating I need to do is to read things (and I do tend to skip over long posts or threads, for eg).

I do feel for you, I remember when mine was so bad I had to point to things, because I couldn't remember the names (ie closet, cereal, etc). Forget about carrying on a conversaton! I was bedridden at the time, but was it hell. I was sleeping very poorly then.

7. notice my posts last night....ummm...this morning
were around 3 am? and the night before and maybe even the night before that? With lives filled with concerns, frustrations and just plain hectic schedules, it seems to me the only time I have to myself is the late eve/early morn. hours. This leaves no sleep time.. usually four to five hours a night. NOT ENOUGH. I usually pass out early after five days in a row of this, though, and sleep a whole seven or eight hours, and then the cycle starts again.

Depression WILL set in if you are prone to it. Happened to me once, and it was SEVERE. Now, I at least nap and meditate sometimes to offset the cycle. Please be careful. Drink camomile tea, eat turkey breast and listen to west wing with your eyes closed, NEVER fails for me.

If you go a long time without sleep, your neurotransmitters go awry. Hope you get some rest soon!
