The Weaver of Nets.
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 04:32 PM by oneighty
I ripped a gaping hole in my shrimp net. Caught up an old tree up there near where the Santee river empties into the Atlantic Ocean. I had a heck of a time getting the tree ought of the net.

Back at the house I strung the forty foot net up between two trees. The damage was so extensive I could not repair it. An old shrimper-man from Salterpath, North Carolina volunteered to repair the net. He was a "Weaver of Nets" during the off season. He knew what he was doing. His hands and fingers grabbed, pulled, twisted, the webbing just so. In a very short time the net is repaired.

"German" I say "Can you show me how to do that?" He showed me. Grab ,pull, twist, knit, tie.. too fast for my eyes to follow.

German slowed his motions down to show me the intricate moves. In slow motion his skilled hands could not perform. And so it is when great skills are learned from birth.
