I'm changing it from architecture to cartography. I'm also eventually going to switch colleges too.
I came to this epiphany today when I realized that the way I think about things and the way my brain works is NOT condusive to what the fundamentals of architecture and what architectural proccess is. I'm a technical-minded person, not an abstract-minded person. These classes I've been taking have been abstract-oriented classes, not anything to do with technical-minded things. I've ALWAYS been technical-minded. Today, as I was talking with my instructor in one of my architecture classes, I realized this. I cannot change the entire way I think about things and about doing things for something like this, even though it's been my passion for a long time.
But map-making has been my passion for even longer. And as I was talking to my mother on the phone about the problems I have had in that one class today, it all clicked in me, and I had an epiphany. I am a map-maker. I am NOT an architect. I am not that kind of person. I have been drawing maps since I was a little boy, a LOT younger than when I started drawing buildings and stadiums and such. I still have a deep passion for maps. I probably still do more map projects in my spare time than architectural projects nowadays. And I'm an architecture major!!
So I have decided to change majors. I'm going to see my advisor on Wednesday to see how I can do this, by taking some GIS and surveying classes this fall at this campus, then transfer out.
I really think I'm going to be OK. I think I truly found my calling. This really kicks ass, because these classes have really stressed me out this semester.
