I mean, it's not like we have a bunch of innocent angels in Major League Baseball. Hell Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth were probably some of the biggest assholes who ever played the game.

Asshole is almost a compliment to give to someone playing professional baseball

That's the era when the gambling was taking place and personally I think he should be banned from ever managing any team in professional baseball ever again. But I think his lifetime ban from baseball should be lifted so he can be a part of the Hall-of-fame (he is the alltime hits leader). I wouldn't even have a problem if he were allowed to be hired by a team for player development or scouting - any position as long as it's not one where he is to make decisioins on how the actual game will be played.

Anyhow, I remember when he was the manager of the Reds. We never did better than 2nd place behind the Dodgers. Personally, he was never that great of a manager - he's too much of an asshole for that position
