So I've been seeing Matthew McConaughey everywhere lately
do we know if he's a Republican or Democrat? I would say Democrat initially because of the whole naked, bongo, pot thing but then he was living in Austin Texas soooooo... Anyone know?

7. It's a really red state.....
It's illogical to ask if a wealthy actor choosing to live in a red state over California which is blue - is a republican? If you don't know the answer just say you don't know.

30. Arnold Schwarzenegger lives in a "really blue" state.
In fact, they elected him Governor. He's Republican, isn't he?

The Red State/Blue State dichotomy is of limited use....

38. I wasn't trying to make sweeping generalizations
about geography/political leanings. I just wanted to know if he was Dem or Republican. I don't actually give a crap how red or not red Texas is or if that means or doesn't mean anything. Can everyone just get off the red state stuff already?

Austin and where I live, San Antonio is mostly blue. The entire state was blue before Tom Delay happened. Asshole. :banghead:

I'd give one of my fingers to live there, instead of a Dallas suburb.

9. Really?
It seemed like those voting maps that broke down red/blue areas by county had Texas as pretty solid red. Maybe I need to see it again. I hope that's true... maybe there is some hope for them. :D

17. You didn't know that about Austin?
Most liberal city in Texas, I'm pretty safe in saying. It even has a reputation for "weirdness." It's eclectic, LOL.

25. the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation did a segment on this ...
They filmed footage in neighbourhoods around the Austin area, and asked viewers to guess whether they were predominantly Dem or Repub.

They probably were a bit selective in their choices -- but I was amazed by the differences! Some of the streets in the "D" category would not have been out of place in the Bay Area, Portland, or for that matter, the funkier areas of Vancouver.

10. he's more likely to be a dem living in Austin than in Dallas
believe it or not. It's a university town.

Remember those lawmakers in Austin are from the sticks - that's why they're running around trying to make it open season on gays and single women who have had sex before marriage.

if he's a Dem because I want to submit my screenplay to his production company. It has some political humor in it... guess which way it slants?

I think everyone on this thread is thinking too much of the red/blue state thing.

I'll probably just submit it and hope for the best.

20. funny you'd mention that -- I bought a copy of "Lone Star" yesterday
... I totally forgot that he played the father of Chris Cooper's character (in the historical flashbacks).

I don't see any big donations to political parties showing up on www.newsmeat.com, so if he is a Republican, he's not out there propping them up.

27. I've only seen half the film so far ...
After spending the day running around doing errands (you can thank a certain other DUer for that!), I was so tired that I decided to save the rest of it for tonight. I was starting to lose track of who did what to whom, in the 1950s sequences.

But yes, it's quite good so far -- and other people have heaped scorn on me for saying I enjoyed "Silver City" so much, telling me that "Lone Star" is way better.

Sayles and the rest of the "Silver City" cast came out slamming Bush (directly, in the DVD commentary and special footage -- well worth a look).

33. Yes. Lone Star is an excellent movie.
You might learn a bit about Texas. It was shot out in Eagle Pass (& Piedras Negras)--a pretty blue part of the state.

When exactly is the shoot? I'm probably going to go ahead and try to submit a query letter to his company next week. If that doesn't work maybe I could send you the script and you could drop it in his bag as you walk past it... errrr or does that only actually work in movies? :D

I don't think I'd turn his head and knowing me I'd trip loooong before I sashay'd. Just not that cool. :(
Besides- I need him to be interested in the story. Telling this story is absolutely numero uno. I never think people will help me do something based on how I look. Am I wrong to think that? Cause if you really think it will help... I could get some headshots done.

Not for his company.. just in general.
