Apparently there was a party in my driveway last night!
I was driving out this morning for work and there were a couple of cig butts and 5 empty beer bottles up by the road. I didn't hear a thing and I guess I wasn't invited.
What would you do to curb the uninvited use and abuse of your property? I have a gate up on the driveway but there is enough space for a couple of cars to pull off the road. The gate is 200 yards from the house and I wouldn't know if anyone was up there. I also work every other weekend from 5am to 5pm so I can't stay up all night to run people off.
I don't want to injure anyone or damage anything; I just want these people to go away. I don't want anyone pissed off about it either. The law isn't able to patrol everywhere- we have four deputies on at any given time to cover 700 sq miles.
Any suggestions? If I let it continue somebody might get hurt. It’s only a matter of time before a drunk wanders up to the house. I will defend myself if I am forced to, but I would rather it not come to that.

1. Put up a little sign that says your property is being monitored
by videocam.

Maybe they'll be just worried enough that it's true that they'll go elsewhere.

2. Remember the gas station hoses that would *ding ding*
when a car rolled over them? They sell a version of that for home security. You'd hear the *dings* in your house.

7. That would be soo cool!
I would like two of those- one for each side of the driveway. (about six foot tall) I would also need to have red lights for the eyes.

8. I hate those lights!
The whole reason I moved out to the country is to be away from all that. I hate those sodium lights people put up, if you want street lights, live in town. Those lights run all night long. No thanks.
I wouldn't be opposed to having motion detection lighting, maybe some flashing bluelights?

9. I have lived out in the country since 1976. I don't have or ever
had a night light. But, then I never had any problems with other people.. I do have motion lights on my garagem but my lord you would have to run electrical wire 200 yards and that would be very expensive. The cheapest way would be for the electric company to install a night light.

5. You could ask the sheriff to make an extra pass by your place when
you're not there on the weekends.
