What kind of dog loves green bell peppers and onions? A weird one.

My daughter accidentally dropped both of those items on the floor (we THINK it was accidental) off her Veggie Lover's pizza and the dog, much to our amazement, ATE them right up.

Pickiest eater ever, this dog is, and likes bell peppers and onions. What the hell is up with that?

4. Dogs should say no to onions

Really. Onions are not good for dogs. I remember hearing this recently and remember when I had a dog years ago, he used to have diarrhea after eating onions.

We give our golden lots of people food. She doesn't care for fruits, and she won't eat green peppers unless they are quality produce, but she loves veggies in general. Do a search for BARF - Bones And Raw Foods. You'd be surprised how bad standard dog food is for your mutt.

my one dog loves jalapeno peppers. Perhaps that is why he is almost 17 years old and still runs around the yard chasing of all things helicopters.

This is one true Mexican Cockerspaniel. He also likes tortilla chips only with salsa, but only with hot salsa. I didn't buy him in Mexico but my ex-secretary who is Hispanic was allergic to dogs: since I had one Cockerspaniel she gave me hers. They fed him foods from the table, that may explain his eating habits. He also likes refried beans. My other cocker is finicky, she won't touch the Mexican foods. She enjoys (very seldom) mash potatoes, gravy and peas.

Cucumber peels are about the best for her. She used to clean off the ripe raspberries from the bushes as far as she could reach, until I planted them out of her play yard. I happen to like raspberries too.

In general although there are some things that he goes after more enthusiastically than others. As far as fruits and veggies, he really likes bananas and carrots. He initially didn't like those little red tomatoes from McDonald's salads but now he eats them. He gobbles enthusiastically anything with traces of meat or cheese so I think that he would anything off a pizza.

Onions can indeed be toxic to dogs, same for mushrooms...and of course chocolate (for both dogs and cats).

One of my 4 dogs will eat any veggie except lettuce, go figure, but I do not give her onions or mushrooms.

We used to give green grapes to my brother's pug as a reward all the time. Could have been lethal.

29. my friend Kathryn's dog used to eat hot peppers

... with no apparent effect. The first time this happened, it was when I was over at their place cutting up pizza toppings -- Kathryn reached over to answer the phone and half a jalapeno fell onto the kitchen floor. I grabbed for it but was too late -- Kali had already vacuumed it up. We thought she'd run for her water bowl, but there was no reaction.

Then again, this dog had grown up half-wild in the Arizona desert, eating run-over rattlesnakes and who knows what else, so her digestive system was probably as hardened and impervious as Dick Cheney's conscience.

Another friend owned a cat she'd picked up as a stray in Thailand (gee, it seems most of my friends do this ... I wonder if this is why they consent to hanging out with me?). The cat preferred a mostly-vegetarian diet, such as well-ripened mangoes and rice, with an occasional lizard on the side. I guess when you are down and out in Chiang Mai there isn't much else! Once in Canada, they persuaded her to eat commercial cat food, but they couldn't leave fruit out in the kitchen or the cat would eat it.

Also tomatoes. The golden retriever (Grendel) liked carrots, while the Newfie (Ursa) would go nuts for cauliflower.

Neither of them like onions though.

I once had a dog who actually liked beets, cucumbers and tomatoes, believe it or not. I hate all of those veggies, but he loved them, would actually beg for them. I've never been able to figure that out!
