How I felt last night after the Cubs lost.
As a Chicago Native and life-long Cubs fan, it feels like my balls were cut off last night and placed in a vise, then dropped in a vat of boiling Chicago Chili, then tossed off the top of Sears Tower onto the 'L' tracks below, only to be run over by the Evanston Express, before they rolled onto the third rail and were fried by 10,000 volts of Over Priced Comm-Ed power, then picked apart by swarms of over-fed seagulls, pigeons and crows, before being returned in the US mail in a box that fell off the truck on the Kennedy Expressway and was run over by a CTA bus before landing on the shoulder where a disabled car from Bollingbrook burned and melted over the box, and then made their way back up on the early Amtrak (without the smoking car of course) only to be left at the lost and found at the Milwaukee Amtrak station where they were pissed upon by homeless Milwaukee Brewers fans and then placed onto one of the now-defuct Milwaukee trolly buses and delivered directly to my door this morning and placed back into my nut-sack, only to have the delivery driver kick me in the nuts immediately and call me a FIB.

in a word: Hurt.

1. man I'm sorry that really sucks
I do hope that the sox win tonight or I'll be in the same boat with you. Did you know that www.killstevebartman.com is a functioning website? You're not one of the fans that blame him are you? What a rotten series that turned out to be, I'm sorry, but noone in the country, outside of FL, wanted to see the Marlins win.

6. I dont blame Steve
I did not want the series to come back to Wrigley, I just knew in my bones that if the Cubs did'nt take it in FL they would lose it all. As Steve goes I bet he stands a better chance of getting rich over this then dead.

20. I was too
I got over it quickly.
Truth is, the Marlins were the better team last night.
Woods and Alou's (wasn't that a beauty?!) home runs were just a tease.
My heart goes out to ALL Cubs fans.

2. Likewise

This one's going to hurt for a long time. And it's resurrecting painful memories from 1984 as well, just to make things worse.

I preferred baseball when I was ignoring it the last couple years.

3. Same Here
But I'm still mad over some of the comments the Marlins' fans made.

They can take their collective state---Jebbie and all---and shove it where the sun don't shine. I'll never work or vacation in that state again.

4. So tell us how you really feel?
I feel much the same way, except for the part about your balls, since I am a woman.

7. Bartman didn't score any runs for Marlins
Chicago guy here too. (A fan since the infield had Banks, Beckert, Kessinger and Santo. Lord, I am old!)

I'm a little PO'd at the folks (not you) that are blaming ths schlub that tipped the foul ball from Alou. Yeah, it was a bonehead stunt and he could have watched the play and not just the ball.

But having caught one in the stands myself, when that ball is coming your way, all you can see is the ball getting bigger and bigger.

The loss of the easy double play by Gonzo that followed shortly after did a lot more harm and the walks last night by Woods killed us when they scored.

I'm sorry, but I think Prior and Woods didn't hold things together the way they usually do for us. Plus the bats were really quiet for the last two games.

I actually feel sorry for the poor guy for doing what ten other people around him did and getting crucified for it.

Now if you will all excuse me, I have to crawl into my cave, shave my head, put on sackcloth and heap ashes on myself for the rest of the winter. Call me when Spring training starts in AZ.

(Does anybody really want to watch the Yankees and Martlins?)

17. But how I loved that team
remember that album they cut? That could be the cause of all their losing since. Never see anybody bring that up. Hopefully I'am not so old as to be the only one that remebers that.

14. totally agree...
It wasn't Steve "Do The" Bartman who allowed the Marlins to
score *21* runs in the last three games!

"Vaunted Cubs Bullpen" my arse.

Also, Gonzo's error was MUCH WORSE than The Fan. That was
an INNING ENDER. That was as bad as Bill Buckner 'cept it didn't
do something so dramatic as go through his legs.

One last thing. Despite death wishes against Bartman, the Cubs
had ANOTHER GAME to get the job done, AT HOME, with ONE
OF THE BEST PITCHERS IN THE LEAGUE. Kinda like the '86 Sox.

Still, it hurts like hell. I'm a Pirates fan (d'oh!) and I still remember
that 1992 Game 7 game winning hit by Rafy Belliard (or was it
Francisco Cabrera?) of the Braves (bottom of the 9th, 2 outs,
ahead 2-0, they lost 3-2). Two years in a row losing to The
Braves in Game 7, and now where are they? Proud to be 8 games
under .500 at season's end...well, they DID give the Cubs a lot
of their post season punch!

15. "thanks Pittsburgh"...
in reference to Pittsburgh trading Aramis Ramirez, Randall Simon and Kenny Lofton to the Cubs, without whom we never would have finished above 500...

12. Whew! That was close
I thought we were going to have a Cubs-Red Sox World Series, which surely would have augured the Great Tribulation was about to start. So I'm humming "Wonderin' Where the Lions Are" today.

The downside, of course, is that I have to listen to the whining and kvetching of Cubs fans (and in all probability Red Sox fans) for another year.
