My boss makes me look bad.
I really like him a lot, too (as a person).

He drops the ball a LOT. He makes these big pronouncements of things we're going to do and then the people under us scramble to get ready and then he doesn't follow through with it.

Guess who gets the questions and some of the griping about it? Me.

When I ask him (and kinda try to prod him), I always get more big words, big plans.

Then I pass that on to the people, and he doesn't follow through with THAT.

I've been very frustrated with this situation. It could be worse, and the repurcussions for me aren't as bad as I originally feared a few months ago, but damn. I'm afraid MY credibility is messed up by HIS lack of credibility. He's all talk, no action and it drives me crazy.

1. Are you just venting? Or do you want suggestions? If the latter,
more specifics would be helpful. Like what, in particular, recently happened? What project? What wasn't he done? What did he not do that is "not following through"?

2. I'm kinda just venting.
He's very burned out on his job and might retire soon (I hope).

The thing that makes it hard is that I really like him as a person, but....

Anyway, thanks.

7. Thanks.
This one isn't a long or detailed one (can't say much), just been bugging me for a long time. Sigh. I have SUCH mixed feelings about him, because he's SUCH a great guy. I like his wife, his son is great, I know his family, he knows my family.

Sigh again.

10. Sometimes you can be great friends (or acquaintences) with someone
but cannot have a good boss employee relationship. It sucks.

6. It sucks, doesn't it?
I feel adrift, he gives me almost no direction, I just sort of come up with things myself....it's weird.

4. Distance yourself
I would say just try not to let it get to you--outside of work at least. It's his problem all the way.
