I always piss off Starbucks employees by not using the "vernacular".
I absolutely REFUSE to use the bullshit mind control propaganda by referring to beverages as "venti" or "tall". They act like I am a moron when I say I want a "large" coffee. They ask me in return, "You want a venti?" I just reply, "Large please".

Call me an asshole, but I love that.

1. I thought it was just me.
I always say "large skim cappuccino" and they repeat back "venti non-fat?"

Duh.

7. Well...
You could always use the Quentin Tarrentino method of ordering coffee:

"Gimme a large coffee, whatever you goddamned call it and do it NOW, you pretentious pukelet!". Then you grab him by the head and slam said head into the counter, repeatedly.

That might work. Once. Then you find out that they don't have "venti" in the county lockup. :D

8. Hell, I refuse to go to Starbucks period
Shitty, burnt coffee. I would much rather go and patronize the local coffee shop. Much friendlier service, better tasting coffee. And besides, you just gotta patronize a place named "Osama's Coffee Zone"!

Osama is a Jordanian who opened up is shop here about ten years ago, great place too. If you're ever in Columbia Mo, check it out, it is on N. 9th St.

41. Starbucks pays some of the highest rates to third world workers
of any coffee importer.

They just got ditched by the largest socially-responsible mutual fund Pax World...the reason? They're introducing coffee liqueur, and the fund considers any alcohol "socially irresponsible"

Gimme a break. :eyes:

31. Oh believe me, Osama's is socially responsible
He gives back to the community through employing those who aren't well off, gives to various local charities, and is active in the community. I would always rather support a local business over a corporate chain.

And like you said, taste is subjective. I just can't stand Starbucks. Besides, coming from the ME, Osama really knows how to make great coffee.

18. From Curb Your Enthusiasm:
While ordering coffee at Starbucks.
Larry David: I'll have a vanilla... one of those vanilla bullshit things. You know, whatever you want, some vanilla bullshit latte cappa thing. Whatever you got.
Awhile later...
Larry: What's in this latte?
Starbucks employee: Milk and coffee.
Larry: Oh my god. Milk and coffee. I never would have thought of that. That's so brilliant.

33. My request for a vanilla coffee
I was in data processing for most of my working life, and a saying in DP was that a vanilla piece of software was plain, not modified, software. The adjective went to everything that was plain, and became as common use. I was in a book store waiting to meet someone and decided to have a coffee. I ordered a 'vanilla coffee.' The clerk looked at me like I have lost my senses. He asked if I wanted vanilla in a coffee? I quickly explained that I only wanted a plain, ordinary, coffee.
I have to get out more often.

35. I have asked for an "extremely overpriced cup of your over roasted
coffee, please" That kind of pisses them off. It kills me when a fast food or other place has 3 sizes of drinks and they are named
"Large, Extra Large & Biggie" (Or whatever). I ALWAYS ask for a "Medium" and often the nitwit will say "We don't have a medium, we have large,extra...blah blah" I reply, "You have 3 sizes, yes? They are of successively larger quantities, yes? THEN YOU HAVE BY DEFINITION, A FUCKING MEDIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nimrods.

37. I once battled with a nitwit at Jack In The Box
I asked for "small" fries.
"We don't have small fries. We only have Medium and Large."
IF YOU ONLY HAVE TWO SIZES HOW CAN ONE OF THEM BE MEDIUM!?!?
Eventually I aksed for "the smaller of your two sizes".
No wonder I don't eat there. Well, that and the fact that their food sucks (especially the fries).

36. Advertisers should not rewrite English.
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 11:43 AM by Deep13
We don't have a small, be have a medium, large and extralarge. Huh. How can medium be medium if there is nothing smaller? It is giving me a venti headache!

P.S., Just noticed the previous post made the exact same point.

My favorite is ordering pizza over the phone and asking what sizes they have and being told S, M & L or whatever, which of course says nothing. "How big is the large?" I invariably ask. The answer: eight slices. Since any pizza can be cut into various numbers of slices, that also says nothing. "So, that's what, twelve inches?"

:silly: :banghead:

I don't know Italian, but veinte is 20 in Spanish. And the venti at Starbucks is 20 oz.

Hint: Avoid movie concessions stands if all this is too much.

39. To All Those
who respond, "Why not go to the local coffee shop?" I say, where do you people live that has local coffee shops? This area of PA has no local coffee shops and never did. The choice here is McDonalds for some STILL WAY TOO HOT, really bad, coffee, WaWa for some colored hot water or Starbucks for actual coffee that's kind of pricey.

That said, yeah, I always order a medium. I hate that fake Starbucks jargon.

40. I save myself the hassle
By never going to Starbucks. After all, there are only three in my neighborhood. Yes, THREE within two blocks. Their coffee sucks and they're so overpriced it's sickening.

I have a little Vietnamese bakery that makes fantastic coffee and charges $1 for a large. And they only have two sizes. Large or small.

God, I hate Starbucks.
