A little art for a Saturday afternoon...
Since I just spent most of the day slapping oil across a canvas...

Some of you might remember this painting I was working on...

Well here's what it looks like right now... (sorry about the glare...)

Improvement or no? I'm interested in finding out what you all think.

1. this is the SAME painting?
.. interesting.

1000 years from now, they'll be x-raying this to see the various "phases" underneath the final ... "result"

3. The yellow line is about the only part I kept from the original...
Otherwise I just turned it onto it's side...

5. Thanks...it still in the early stages and still very wet (hence the glare)
It's a scene looking out over the snow drifts from my basement on a sunny day...

10. From the basement where I've been painting recently...
You might remember the picture of me sitting down there surrounded by paintings.

And yeah, I was getting kind of board with the still life, and wanted to paint something out doors, but there's still way too much snow on the ground, and little bit of a chill in the air...

11. I knew I wasn't going to finish the still life so rather than waste
a canvas on a painting I was never going to finish, I decided to give it a makeover instead...

12. I told another poster last night that I was actually very inspired by
Mondrian. I'm sure your aware of his early work with the tree branches against the sky. I been seeing patterns in tree branches and shadows all winter, and really wanted to paint some...

13. Thanks, I'm always interested in what non-artists think of other peoples
art. And yeah, I like the second one better too, the photo doesn't do it any justice.

Study finds fractals relax and remove stress

By GREG BOLT

EUGENE, Ore. - Every office worker's dream is a desk near a window, and University of Oregon physics professor Richard Taylor thinks he knows why.

It all boils down to fractals, curious patterns at the intersection of art, science and nature that may be tattooed into our very genes.

The patterns sometimes are so subtle and intricate that our conscious minds see little more than random chaos, but Taylor has found that deep in our brains we are so attuned to these patterns that just looking at certain types - such as those found in the trees and clouds seen through many office windows - can cut our stress levels up to 60 percent.
