Poll question: What is the greatest thing that Quebec has contributed to the world?
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 08:00 PM by JVS
What would we miss if it were not for Quebec?

Offer suggestions and I'll add stuff

24. The Duchesnays were that hot-shit skate team in Sarajevo?
If it's who I'm thinking of, sadly over-looked that year...I thought they should've silvered. If I'd been a kid then, I'd've wanted to do ice dancing after watching them.

27. Not Sarajevo, but Calgary in 1988.
They had a wild tribal dance thing that gave everyone in the ice dance world the vapors.

They also competed in Albertville in 1992 and won the silver. Their program was "Missing II" memorializing those missing in South American dirty wars. The music was Andean pan pipes among other things.

30. I definately got the vapours off that performance.
and if it was in Calgary, thought they should've golded then (no one came close to T and D at Sarajevo). A friend of mine who was an amateur skater said that the perforance was too 'wild' and 'unconventional' to even be considered. I lost all my interest in all that shit when she explained the best doesn't necessarily win in those competitions; it's pretty much a done deal, based on past performances, current world standings and politics. I think Suriya Bonaly got screwed big time over due to that mindset. And T and D got screwed on their 'comeback.' I quit watching after that theft.

22. the worst phone customer the art supply company I worked for ever had
a francophone, of course.:o

Sorry, nice francophones.

She wanted us to split her multi 100's of dollars orders into under $40 CN so she wouldn't have to pay GST VAT and customs. sorry, no can do. Illegal. Well then we should pay it for her. Sure-not. she ordered for multiple people, only wanted it to be one order and wanted us to split the order say 8-12 ways. She also ordered lots of one sheets of paper-truly hard to pull, and wanted some extra bit of impossibility done to the order-always had complaints about the service, and kept coming back for more. She ended up always being transferred to management when she called. It was finally suggested to her by one of the supes that she might be happy with the price and services elsewhere.

34. Their oil to the US in case of an energy shortfall. Read up NAFTA then
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 01:15 PM by HypnoToad
blame anyone who signed or supported NAFTA for allowing that little inclusion in the fine print.

Also note how NAFTA, supposedly for free bilateral trade, is not used when drug companies want Canadian drugs blocked from entering the US.

NAFTA is a joke. And Canadians will ultimately freeze their buns for it.

35. Another choice: "Rude tourists..."
We have Can-Am days down here in South Carolina in the early spring, when a whole ton of Canadien snowbirds flock down here for our balmy 70 degree weather. Most of them are nice, except for the hard core "French till we die" Quebec crowd.

I can understand being in your own contry and speaking French, wanting to continue to speak French to preserve your identity, culture, etc. Hey, we have Creole in Louisiana. I'm down with that.

But don't get pissed off at me if I don't speak French BACK to you while you're in South Carolina. Sorry, all we speak here is bad southern.
