I'm Muslim, and it's Easter Weekend.
That means up in these highly Catholic, highly Lutheran parts of the US, they give the colleges a 4-day long weekend (over 98 percent of people here are some type of Christian). But I don't give a shit about Easter, so I'm staying here for the long weekend. I think I'll go to the local mosque and pray later today. It is Friday, after all.

Sometimes I feel sooooooo alienated.

1. Trying being a Jew in the Bible Belt!
As Bill would say "I feel your pain". But at least today is a Jewish Holiday - Purim. Taking the kids to temple tonight to enojoy the fun!

3. I'm a Wiccan
I feel that way at Easter, Halloween, Christmas, and all the other sacred holy-days the Christians deliberately stole from us.

10. I don't give a shit about Easter either
Why should I? I'm not christian, never went to church, didn't care.

Are christians taught to not give a shit about Ramadan? Cause I guarantee you nearly all christians don't give a shit about that.

13. I don't recall ever being taught anything about Ramadan
as a Christian. As an adult who makes up his own mind
about what I respect, I respect Ramadan as a part of a
religion that is important to the believers in that religion.
I was simply curious if Muslims, as the OP identified himself,
are specifically taught to disrespect Easter or Christianity,
or if the OP was taught that as an individual.

14. ok well first how did he disrespect easter?
just saying that he doesn't give a shit about it? How is that disrespectfull first of all? I don't see anything else that you could pick on to be so.

I don't see it as a disrepectfull statement at all. I see it as one of....well I just couldnt' care less about easter, which is how I feel.

I can't speak for the OP but i was never taught anything negative or disrespect of chrsitianity. Jesus is a prophet who is revered in Islam. He's just not seen as the messiah.

How does not caring about Easter equate to disrespecting it?

18. You shouldn't have responded to me then
As someone who also comes from a muslim background I felt that you were attacking Islam by asking a question that implied that it's a religion of hate.

But you dont care what I have to say, even though you responded to me.

8. I can hardly blame you
Its weird how the fundies, who are now a majority, act like they're some oppressed minority and the people who are actually minorities just put up with it.

I am a Christian and this weekend does mean something to me - but I don't have a family that celebrates Easter so its not a big deal in that sense. Everyone I know is travelling to be with family this weekend so I guess I feel a little out of it too.

11. We atheists get forced to celebrate all of those holidays
even if we have no interest in them because they're "federal" or "state" holidays.

I wish that we'd just give everyone X number of days off per year as holidays and let them take them individually.

The only good thing about Easter is the peeps and the Reese's peanut butter eggs.

15. I work for a company that gives everyone 24 paid days off a year
That includes sick days, holidays, vacation, whatever. The thing is, we are contractors, and to a certain degree we have to go with what the client does. i.e. if the client is closed on Chirstmas you can't work that day just because you want to- it would have to be approved by them.

A lot of the contractors are from India and our holidays mean absolutely nothing to them, but having a paid month off to go back home means a lot.

24. exactly. It would be nice if the client site would be as respectful of
their employees and contractors, though. DH's company does 19 PTO days and 12 company holidays, most of which are somewhat Xtian or patriotic.

That's better than some, but we wish they'd just give all 31 days to employee preference, because we have no interest in being on the roads during Independence day, Memorial Day, etc, when the state parks are crowded and the drunks are out in force.

(went to Michigan Law) She said it was not nice sometimes-and they didn't even KNOW she was Muslim. It was the Honda that pissed them off.

23. Your plans sound good
and like you said, it IS Friday after all! :hi:

My wife and I are "small c" christians (we believe the prophecy of Yeshua, but not the divinity) and so we really don't care much about the religious holidays either.

However, this year we decided to do something completely different: instead of hanging with our families, we're going out of town this weeked to spend some time together. We both work too much and are active in volunteer/civic activities, so we don't get nearly enough time together. So, we're taking the weekend off to just hang around and "do nothing" together.

And yeah, I'm totally psyched! :7
