They just don't get it at Free Republic, do they
look at this

To: cherry
...the fig leaf of add-on accounts that do little to finance the $10.4 trillion unfunded Social Security liability," he said.
If you want to be even more bitter, consider this: That $10.4 trillion has already been paid by the tax payers once, spent by the Congress, and will someday have to be paid again. That is in addition to these increased taxes and lower benefits described. That means that taxes will have he to be even higher and benefits even lower, and perhaps the retirement age extended to one day after death.

This scam has to be stopped because the longer it goes on the further behind we get. The liberals like to talk about the SS surplus but any surplus is immediately spent and added to the $10.4 trillion we must later pay again. These new higher taxes aren't to pay for current retirees but to "fix SS until.....?, meaning giving them more money to spend right now which we will have to pay back later.

Feel better now/

the 10.4 Trillion $ defecit in social security is caused by tax cuts for the wealthy combined with spending increases. It is mainly the fault of the GOP, Bush and Republicans in Congress.
You can't have your tax cuts and have a strong government too, folks.

1. It's a pride thing, man
In order to "get it," they would have to admit that they were wrong.

With all their liberal-bashing, it would be very hard for any of them to take a step back, and admit that maybe Dubya wasn't a good choice, after all.

3. You're so, so, so right, and the media won't TOUCH that truth.
The fact of the matter is, the $2 trillion that Bush has added to the debt in four years is what's causing the long-term problems with SS. Gigantic tax cuts for millionaires and massive increases in military spending have crippled our budget, giving us a major fiscal crisis to deal with. THAT is the problem, because now it's unlikely that the treasury will ever be able to repay what it owes to the SS trust fund.

But don't hold your breath waiting for the media to cover this.
