New legislative proposal: "Stacie's Law"
I think I will be wanting to do some Michael Moore-style participatory journalism. (OK, propaganda. Still.)

In my ideal world: I would like to petition my member of Congress to introduce a bill. This bill can be called "The Not Over My Dead Body Nor Anyone Else's Will You Write A Law To Serve Your Own Political Purposes Act of 2005." Let's call it "Stacie's Law" for short.

Under Stacie's Law, lawmakers will be prohibited from exploiting dead or incapacitated people -- usually women, did you ever notice that? -- by rushing through ill-conceived bills that we really don't need, with names designed to pull at the heartstrings.

Are you with me?

1. Here's a counter-proposal
The Cute Dead Blonde Legal Nomenclature Act, which will require every piece of legislation to bear the name of a cute blond-haired female child or adult victim of a crime of violence that has lead to death.

Give the people what they want, I sez. Good and hard.

4. Thanks!
Hm... It seems "Corinne" missed the point.

Then again, she got to my site by searching "contraceptive mentality," (IP tracking is fun!) which is apparently a bad thing to have.

9. Birth control promotes a "contraceptive mentality," which is
hostile toward life.

So says Pro-Life Wisconsin, anyhow.

I wrote about it a little, and agreed, that, yes, I have a contraceptive mentality, but I'm not hostile toward life -- I'm hostile toward unwanted pregnancy.

11. The terminology upsets me for some reason.
It's like 'partial-birth abortion' instead of 'D&C'.

Instead of 'contraceptive mentality' we should say 'responsible attitude towards procreation'. IMO, anyway.

Love your blog, Stacie... glad you posted, since it prompted me to catch up.

And ... oh, joy! I'm now feeling guilty for using vague, abstract concepts when my daughter asked me those questions. :)
