He was giving a lecture about the death of Chaucer, and it was f-ing fascinating. He was indirectly bashing Bush the whole time, though, alone with Joe McCarthy, neocons, and warmongerers. He goes on the good-guy list in my book.

"There's some lovely filth over here!"

2. I'm jealous.
*points to user name indignantly*

I love the Pythons. I saw Eric Idle last year on tour. He was wonderful--very anti-Bush. In one of his sing-a-longs, one of the verses was, "Give $87 billion to Iraq, but you'll never get it back."

You lucky, lucky bastard. :)

17. Today, while he was talking about the duke of Gloucester
he said "As usual, the only people who wanted to go to war were the ones making money off of it." He also said an evil bishop and power-behind-the-throne was the Henry Kissinger of his day.

The Pythons are really funny. I'm jealous of *you* for getting to see Eric Idle! :hi:

On edit, heres a couple of verses....

Fuck you very much the FCC
Fuck you very much for fining me
Five thousand bucks a fuck
So I'm really out of luck
That's more than Heidi Fleiss was charging me

So fuck you very much the FCC
for proving that free speech just isn't free
Clear Channel's a dear channel
So Howard Stern must go
Attorney General Ashcroft doesn't like strong words and so
He's charging twice as much as all the drugs for Rush Limbaugh
So fuck you all so very much

9. See, I didn't even know he was political
Shows how much I know. He's really, really smart, though, and a great speaker (not that that was very surprising).

I didn't get a chance to ask about Spam. We just said the lecture was good, and he beamed and said "Pleasure!" :P It was awesome.

12. No, it was about his Chaucer book
called "Who Murdered Chaucer?" I haven't read it, but I definitely plan to. If it's anywhere near as good as the speech, it'll be a great read.

He is a genius as an actor, too! I loved his "Where is the Fish?" routine in The Meaning of Life.

her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by Divine Providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. That is why I am your king!

19. Listen, strange women...
lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!

15. "It's a dead Chaucer. It has ceased to be. It's a stiff."
Did Chaucer die of having a piano keyboard run through his torso?
