Anyone getting crappy gasoline since prices have gone up??
Twice in the past two weeks my service engine light has come on...once within hours of getting gas in Galveston and then two days ago in the Dallas area. Both times after I filled up w/ new gas and the old gas was out of the system, the light went back off. I wouldn't think it was gasoline related but I have 2 relatives in another state who have had the same problem in the last month after getting gas and then it resolves after they fill up and the new gas makes it's way thru the car system. May be one big coincidence...just got me wondering if station owners are watering down their gas or selling cheap, yucky gas while still gouging us at the pump.

1. Additives.
They are likely adding all sorts of things to the gas to extend it, and their profits.

2. Actually, my car has been getting much better mileage these days.
I just switched from Chevron to Shell (Buyblue.org) due to political things. Shell gives more money to Blue candidates than Chevron. And now my mileage is much higher! Go figure.

9. They are "light red"...(which is TOO red, IMHO!)

http://buyblue.org/detail.php?corpId=100

BP PLC

Rating: Light Red - 38 %

BuyBlue.org's Position:
BP currently has a 38% BuyBlue rating due to political contributions for the 2003-2004 election cycle. BP is an oil conglomerate based in the UK and as such BP's executives stayed out of American politics as far as personal donations are concerned within the realm of FEC governance. However, BP has a political action committee which contributed $209,499 (38.00% Dem, 62.00% Rep) in the last election cycle.

BP's rating will probably inch up once we start rating other factors, but for now they are rated as light red for political contributions. If you can't get to a Hess gas station they'd make a good alternative to some of the other oil companies out there. The email we have on file goes directly to their CEO

13. Hi, SmileyBoy,
Sorry I took this long to do the little research I needed to do to find your answer! BP is typical of the oil industry: 65% of their donations to political parties goes to the Republicans; 35% goes to the Democrats. This is not an unusual split at all. Shell is a little better. None are really good. Sorry...

3. Yep.
Car is making a knocking sound. All the fluids, filters and belts are fine.
Taking in back in (yet again) for another tune-up. Second one in two months! First one-the filter was filthy and I had just put in a new one.
Something's wrong-I think it links back to the gas. Everyone is complaining about car problems too.

Geeeee....what a coinky-dink....."here, use Billy Bob's shitty gas"...now head on over to Billy Bob's garage so we can take a look at why that smoke is billowing out from under your hood and out your tailpipe"! Cha-ching, cha-ching!!

8. Exactly.
Man, they are ripping me off left and right.
I have a good mechanic, though. He did insinuate that it might be the quality of the gas that I was putting in my car. He wanted to know where I was getting it. I told him and he said"Well, that can't be it. They are pretty reputable around here."

4. You're not the first to notice
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 01:47 AM by Ellen Forradalom
there was another thread where several people noticed their mileage plummeting recently.

On edit: found it.

10. My mileage has stayed the same, if not better
I fill up on Fridays, and I used to get about 350 miles/tank, and the last couple of weeks I've been able to hold off until Saturday at 400 miles.
The station that I use was a Mobile until last week, it's a Texaco now. The owner is a nice guy, and so I like to go there.

11. If the gas is being watered down,
it's more likely the suppliers, not the station owners, who are doing it.
