Our front doorbell doesn't work but we don't say so and thus we never hear the proselytizers and funds solicitors if they do show up.

the people who are supposed to come over know how to get our attention!

Actually once every few years it occurs to some of to knock. Then we say "No."

3. There's no law that you have to answer your door, anyway.

But if you do and have uninvited solicitors or proselytizers, all you have to do is tell them that you're not interested. If they persist, tell them again, adding "I don't want to be rude but I've told you I'm not interested, so goodbye," and close the door.

They're just trying to earn a living, trying to help a cause they believe in, or trying to save your soul, not trying to annoy you. Really. Same with telemarketers. Just say no.
