3. Mililani, HI
You think I'm yanking your chain? Meet Hawaiian sovereignty activist Mililani Trask:

http://www.worldhistory.com/wiki/M/Mililani-Trask.htm

Mililani Trask is a leader of the Hawaiian sovereignty movement and an internationally acclaimed political speaker and attorney. Trask's most significant contribution to the Hawaiian sovereignty movement was her founding of Na Koa Ikaika o Ka Lahui Hawaii, an internationally recognized native Hawaiian non-governmental organization. Outside of Hawaii, Trask has worked with the United Nations to aid indigenous people from around the world seeking independence. She was a member of the Indigenous Initiative for Peace, helped author the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and was elected vice chair of the General Assembly of Nations of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization. For seven years, she worked and studied under the guidance of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. She is the younger sister of activist and writer Haunani-Kay Trask.

6. Eugene, Oregon
Named after Eugene Skinner - sounds a little better than Skinner's Mudhole, another early nickname for the town.

17. I cannot find the history of Pierre
I do know that it is pronounced as "peer" by the locals. Also, I believe there is a Loomis, Ca. Loomis is a last name, but it is also used as a first name. I have a nephew named Tanner, and my brother had a childhood friend whose last name was Tanner. So they go back and forth.
How about
Lawrence, Ks

30. Gomer, Ohio
Assuming characters from TV shows are ok.

It really does exist:

The Gomer area is famous for its Welsh settlers and also had one of the first "mall" concepts back in the Lincoln Highway days, with a post office, hardware, grocery store and filling station under one roof. You can still spot this building. In 1937, Ripley's Believe It or Not also listed Gomer as the only US town with all white houses on its main street! Wow!
