12. It's funny...
I was out east many years ago and was working with this New Yorker. He tried to introduce me to Dr. Borwn's Celery Soda.Wow was that ever horrible. He was originally from Cleveland and new about Vernors. I didn't get the celery thing and he never understood Vernors.

I used to like it quite a bit in my post-college days.

If I can find the root beer, I'll give it a try.

A couple others by Full Sail, a microbrewery in Hood River, OR.

55. Mountain Dew is the Intelligence Analyst's Best Friend
The military trains some of its intelligence analysts at an air force base in Texas. The schoolhouse is inside a cyclone fence with armed guards at the gate.

Inside the fence is a little building with soda machines in it. There were twelve of them in 1986, and three of those were stocked with nothing but Mountain Dew. (The other nine machines had it too, but three of them were only MD.) Mountain Dew has more caffeine than any other soda on the face of the planet with the possible exception of Jolt Cola, and even that's questionable.

i really like soda, especially pepsi with dr pepper a close second. for some reason i just like the way it tastes and feels and like to drink it more than anything else. although i do drink more water just because it's healthy and try not to drink too much soda.

15. Ale-8-One

Ale-8-One, the soft drink unique to Kentucky, has been bottled in Winchester since 1926.

Still a closely guarded family secret, the Ale-8-One formula was developed by G.L. Wainscott in the 1920's after experimentation with ginger-blended recipes he acquired during extensive travels in Northern Europe. He sponsored one of America's first "name the product" contests, and "A Late One" was the winning entry. The drink's logo, Ale-8-One, was adopted as a pun of its description as the latest thing in soft drinks.

23. Hey, I Remember Ale-8-1 !
I went to high school in Cincinnati and was a camp counselor during the summers in Northern Ky. I never got the "a late one" thing until your post.

My vote, however, was going to be for Vernor's. And I used to like Wink, a grapefruit soda from Canada Dry, but I don't believe it's made any longer.

53. I vote for A&W Root Beer as well, but
it's so much better served in a frosted mug at a drive-in than in a can or bottle.

Otherwise, Diet Doctor Pepper was my favorite all through college. I kept a record of spending at the time, and nearly every day, there was an entry for "DDP."

I can only seem to find it in Detroit. Sickly sweet, I have a strong emotional bond with it since it was always wHat we drank at my Grandparents' house. I left a 6 pack of it at the cemetary for them. Actually I couldn't resist so I let them duke it out for the remaining five cans...B-)

Later,
JM
