1. I have the same problem whenever I use Firefox.
Don't know why.

2. They're memory and resource hogs
It's a great format, but it's not exactly "slim".

3. Are you using Firefox? Firefox and Acrobat do NOT play nice together
I just started saving PDF's to my desktop and opening them directly through Acrobat instead of trying to get to them via Firefox.

4. Firefox? Same problems here
Acrobat must have insulted Firefox at some point and Firefox is NOT burying the hatchet.

5. I have the same problem with Netscape 7.1. Some PDF files jam.
I have the latest Adobe upgrades but it still happens. I have lots of free memory, too. Never had the problem with my old Netscape 4.5.

8. More than likely because

of your font folder.
Try pulling out fonts you don't use(move them, don't delete them).
I've had corrupted fonts mess with Acrobat.

There is a hack/fix for Acrobat running around that strips out stuff to make it run quicker.
Haven't tried it, but I've heard good things.

Edit: found it.
"Find the plug_ins folder and rename it plug_ins_disabled
Create a new folder named plug_ins
Copy the following files from "plug_ins_disabled" to "plug_ins": EWH32.api, printme.api, and search.api"
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Adobe_Reader

Edit again:
Just tried it and it sped things up considerably in Firefox as well as in Acrobat.

This is all assuming you don't have other issues with your computer, of course.
