Anyone watching "Their Eyes Were Watching God" on ABC tonight?
It's an "Oprah Winfrey Presents..." starring Halle Berry and Michael Ealy (of Barbershop fame) among others. I read the book twice (once in high school and another time in a Black Literature class). Trying desperately to get my work done before it aires in a few hours here on the west coast.

Any good previews so far? I haven't seen any commercials... just ads in magazines.

3. Read the book also, and the blurb in the tv section about it makes
me think they're really changing it...so I think I'll pass.

4. There's a short commercial on the frontpage at ABC.com
www.abc.com

Love that music and I'm sure Ms. Hurston would as well but still... call me crazy but I don't think Alicia Keyes fits the era the story depicts.

6. It fits the story.
Particularly if you are familiar with the Keys video for the song.

EWW.

5. I *hate* that story soooo much.
I'm in the minority on it, and granted I only read it once in high school, but IMO it's yet another tale about how fucked up men are and a woman supposedly showing some kind of strength by putting up with their bullshit.

Keeping it spoiler free, but *damn*.

I expect it will win Emmys all the way around though!

7. I'm kind of neutral on that book.
I didn't hate and I didn't love it. I'm not watching the movie, btw. My husband is actually watching Walker Texas Ranger (who knows why?).

12. I'm not watching it, then.
Bring on Al Swearengen:

“Get the fuck out of here, doc. I'm working on my deployments and flanking maneuvers.”

8. well, count me in the minority of viewers, I guess: boring, dark, grim....
I surely didn't get the "triumph of womanhood" or whatever it was supposed to convey. I'm afraid I also didn't see the great performance from Halle Berry that was so intensely hyped....

I guess i just don't get it...

13. I don't know if it were her performance that was so hyped.

I think it was her presence.

She did good when she said she wanted to thank her agent for putting her in this "piece of shit" when accepting a Razzie in person for the Catwoman movie.

14. I like Halle, but the movie was boring..
There was nothing "special" about it.. Pretty girl,"sold" to old man- first husband...conned by 2nd husband who was bossy..and finds true love with younger man who dies tragically??

Where's the story? I liked her in the Josephine Baker story, and she's drop dead gorgeous, but this was a non story,,

I would have rather seen the story be about Eatonville. That was the most interesting part of it :)

11. Yeah, well I didn't get to watch it...
I don't know if anyone noticed but I've been lounging about here for the past few hours *trying* to get my HW done at the same time. It really shouldn't be that hard but the lounge can be so damn distracting... and what's worse is I can't bring myself to X the window. :(
