Splurge and get something French. (OMG I said the F word!) Americans don't know how to make good Champagne. Retail price (not restaurant price) for a really good one should be $60 to $80. But anything in the $40 range will be fine. Go for brut. Forget anything pink, it's too sweet. It should sparkle on the tongue and evaporate in a whisp of fruit.

I can't remember the name of the beer, but I think it's Dutch...wittenbeir or something like that. There are a number of brands that make it.

It tranlates to "white beer". Very tasty stuff!
