Papa Johns is just so-so. The only truly bad pizza comes from the frozen food section. I usually make my own (Chicago and thin crust), it's equally as good as most pizza places. The key is making real yeast crust and semi-homemade sauce. I use Alton Brown's red-sauce recipe as a base. It's good stuff.
