4. All I hear is the same crap on most stations.
There are few stations that don't play the "establishment".

6. Oh, wouldn't that be great!
And how about original playlists, actually chosen by the jocks who play the music? (And I say this as the former music director of a soulless "hot country" radio station.)

11. That's why I do college radio for no pay.
They let me play whatever the fuck I want. And my "Soul Express" show has caught on pretty damned well!

3. Sirius, baby
best $250 I ever spent. Commercial radio is up to about 20 min of ads per hour, mostly for debt consolidation and boner medicine. It's dead, and won't be missed.

10. Can't say I'm going to miss it...
Most of my music listening is done here or on my Mac laptop anyway, so fuck all with broadcast radio. Seriously. If you have corporate stations with so little variance in the playlist, there's no incentive to listen anyway and amounts to choosing between a hamburger Happy Meal or a hamburger Happy Meal without mustard. Chicken nuggets are not even an option. Fuck 'em is all I say, I'll keep my Rhapsody subscription and listen as I please.

12. This is a great piece.
I have such a vast CD collection that the Radio is worthless.

15. Same with me and computer song files.
I have about 200 songs burned on 12 CD's.

13. Internet Radio and Podcasting is the future...
I'm having more fun operating my own internet radio station and playing anything I want then when I worked in FM, and it's not even close.

I won't be sorry to see corporate radio die a slow, lingering death.

14. I thank GOD for ThunderRadio 105.9
It's a new station that popped up on my campus last year (replacing the crotchety old KDSU), and it has kicked so much ass lately with their music. There's a lot of REALLY good obscure punk and metal they play on there.

16. Great article
Thanks, NightTrain. Good luck with your show.

I didn't know that Clear Channel had lost 4.7 billion last year. That's good news. Maybe Clear Channel will start selling some of their stations back to local owners.
