Wife Swap has a RW and a
wife who wants * to be tried for war crimes trading places tonight.
Not a show I normally watch, but it might make some good entertainment tonight.

1. Oh I can't do it
My joy in WIFE SWAP is that it's a distraction from my real world.

I don't want to see politics on it...

Maybe I haven't been around young boys but I don't think too many kids draw too many pictures of that. I can see a few BUT that little boy's picture was too indepth.

42. I swore my son would never have a gun
He improvised and turned hangers and legos into guns. I gave up and decided to focus on teaching him the harm of guns. He now is a good pacifist kid even though he played with guns when he was younger.

10. First time watching it....
I loved when the teen corrected the Freeper mom about Iraqi/WTC.

Teen- (mentions how he doesn't blame the troops, just the idiots who send the innocent to go get killed in a war for personal gain)

Bushmom- "Did you just want the people from Iraq (may or may have not said iraq) to fly planes in the World Trade center?"

Teen- The Iraqis didn't do that, the Saudis flew the planes in the building. How come we aren't attacking Saudi Arabia? Because we are too dependant on their oil.

I fucking loved that.

Although he did act like a complete asshole when talking about religion with the woman. He shouldn't have been so forceful.

29. The oldest son annoyed me a bit.
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 11:10 PM by deadparrot
Though he was educated and obviously knew what he was talking about, he seemed quite violent and angry in his opinions. The parents could also have exerted a little more parental control, too, IMO. The liberals, however, seemed much more preferable to me than the neocon whackjobs. Their kids creeped me out--all killing crazy. The dad didn't seem to give a shit about his family and the mom wasn't emotionally available--too busy cleaning and and reading the Bible, but not taking any of it to heart.

Then again, many teenagers are angry-and for a lot less reasons. I feel that he could have been more polite to the other woman when he was stating his point.

32. I'm a teenager, and I consider myself "angry"
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 11:19 PM by deadparrot
in the fact that I'm frustrated with the state of the world and how little I can do to change it. However, I don't like when people scream their opinions in my face, whether they be liberal or conservative. I'm a pretty calm person, and screaming, especially about controversial issues, puts my nerves on end. I'd much rather have a quiet, intellectual conversation in which both sides can be heard and discussed in a calm manner. I honestly think he could have gotten further and looked classier if he hadn't yelled so much.

35. I understand. I live among freepers.
And I get VERY frustrated sometimes. I just want to shake some people and tell them to wake the hell up. However, I've learned that lettng them go on their little rants, then calmly puncturing their argument with some witty little statistic, is much more effective. IMO, yelling only empowers the other person to scream louder, and they both end up looking like extremist fools.

True, she was a shrieking, boorish woman. Like I said before, I'm pretty calm, and she was jacking up my blood pressure a few notches. I can't say his reaction wasn't normal. However, I don't think the kid's parents have ever imposed much discipline on him. I'm all for encouraging free thought, but he seemed pretty arrogant and wild, too. Basically, I don't think his loud arguing was trying to get through to the woman, I think he was just a brat whose parents have never stood up to him.

I generally don't like people who go around shrieking hysterically, refusing to listen to anyone else. That's why he annoyed me. :)

40. Heah, thanks for your thoughtful post, DP.
The young guy on this show just helped me realize that there are many angry people who feel the same way I do.
I don't know if a quiet, intellectual conversation would have changed a thing with that military mom, but perhaps so. You are young and wise. A tamer approach might have made that mom calmer.

43. Thanks for your kind words. :)
Like I said, I might not be able to hold it in with a woman as maniacal as her. If someone is yelling at me, I have a hard time pretending not to notice. With people who don't want to listen, any type of communication is fruitless, so you're right in that an intellectual conversation probably wouldn't work between people who are so different. Just being my idealistic teenage self, I suppose. Personally, I just don't like shrieky people, and I especially don't like them if they represent my views.

And these shows are edited to show teh worst, most extreme parts of a person's personality, so I'm trying to take it all with a grain of salt. :)

34. picking battles
I agreed with most of what the teenager had to say, but had he picked his battles a little more selectively he might have had a greater impact. He obviously got through to the RW wife about the idea of having help around the house. That was pretty interesting, since she had such a negative opinion of him before that.

But he got through by toning down the rhetoric and providing an example (become the change you want to see in the world) rather than by being verbally combative or ironic/sarcastic, as he was in the religion discussion. (Still, who knows how these things are edited, she might have been bating him before some of what seemed like angry outburts.)

36. That is true about the editing.
I remember being a teenager and lashing out at times. You get so frustrated and think that no one will listen to you-that no one will value your opinion. And I definitly got that opinion of her. Not to excuse his behavior, but I remember what it was like (especially since I grew up around people like her).

They were all performing for the camera, and I am sure like in every other reality tv show, there were plenty of retakes.

which in itself is odd, because last time I checked, there are no retakes in " reality"

I had the same thoughts. Even though I agree with everything Dan? (the teenager) had to say, I would have approached it differently. But then, I'm a 47 year old married mom.
