Please let me know the stereotypes about wearing Birkenstocks.
I like my Birkenstocks and I've worn them for 25 years. I realize that I'm a lesbian because I wear them but I'm a radical, also. Who knew? The shoes I wear are radical?

I just wear them because they are comfortable. I mostly wear them as slippers.

3. I have birkies, too
May daughter teases me about them but I don't care. They are comfortable and my weird feet like them! Does that mean I'm straight but my feet aren't?

12. My weird feet love 'em too.................................
I wear 9.5 EEE and have a hard time finding comfortable sandals. I bought my first pair in '89, and I loved them. Caught a lot of shit for it to from my family. My aunt used to call them my "Galilee Cruisers." But lo and behold about six years ago I visit my folks and the both had pairs, crowing about the comfort!

7. Liberals wear them too.
I enjoy wearing a bright purple pair that I purchased in Munchen quite a few years ago.

22. Wow! Those sound fancy.

What style might they be? Mine are the Arizona. I wear mine mostly as slippers too. I bought them in Munchen, Germany at a store which only carried Birkenstocks! There were, literally, floor to ceiling Birkenstocks. Every style and color and size one could imagine was in there! Boy that was fun. When I broke my ankle a few years ago, my Birkenstocks were the only shoe I could wear for about a month after I got the cast off. My foot had so much swelling that I couldn't fit into any other shoe. I wore bright purple Birkenstocks to work everyday!

I've always wanted a pair of the pretty sandles with the ankle straps.

25. I live near an outlet
They offer them about once every two years. I got them for about $30. They have three straps. I bought one of the shoe ones once.

8. "Those guys in Birkenstocks..."
First time I heard that was Chris Matthews. I gleaned from the context that he meant liberals (hippies.)

Mostly just around my house, but occasionally out in public. ;)

I have had this pair for almost 20 years, since I was in college.

13. A minister in the fundamentalist church I was in wore
Birkenstocks. Went out black-powder shooting when he couldn't hunt deer. From Montana.

It was really weird seeing this 60 year old balding man with glasses and in a suit and tie walk up to the lectern to give his sermon. He was ultra-conservative and probably thinks * is left-wing. He doesn't vote as a matter of doctrine.

14. Oh that stereotype !
I can't swing a dead rat without hitting a NEO Con nut case but couldn't find a long-haired, birkie-wearing hippy if my life depended on it. Love those wacky stereotypes...and Rush doesn't take drugs.

16. I have some, but I don't wear them out.
Kind of comfy slipper type of shoes that you can go outside with if necessary in the Summer. I still prefer Tevas though because they're just as comfy a little cuter. I tend to live in those all Summer.

21. Hilarious game show moment...
It was one of the Pyramid game shows, and Birkenstock was the answer. The guy's clue for the guesser was "ugly sandals that lesbians wear". The guesser got it right away.

While I don't agree with the stereotype, I do confess to laughing my ass off at that game show moment.

And I'm very liberal.

I love my Adidas athletic slides. I have them in black and blue and wear them as often as I can. Very comfy.
