My 18 year old cousin just had a baby and......
was told she was no longer welcome at her home bu her holier than thou Dad. I found out 3 days ago she was pregnant, she didn't tell my aunt and uncle until she couldn't hide it anymore. The real surprise here for me besides her having a baby was that my father and step mother are taking her in. I'm surprised in a good way by that last part, i don't whats come over my father but i'm really glad they're helping her out. My Nana offered to take her but Nana is 86 and not in the best of health.

1. That is so sad. Why do the grandparents want to punish their grandkid?
Like the baby had a choice in the matter.
:eyes:

I don't understand that mentality at all.

3. From the Sound of Things....
...you wound up in the better part of your family. Your cousin and her baby need love and stability right now - it sounds like your dad and step-mom are stepping up to the plate.

Tell them I said they did the right thing!! :-)

5. I will indeed tell them, my Dad wasn't much of a kid person you know
he was never mean but he was always more like a business advisor, maybe he's softened up. My step mom is awesome, she used to work for NOVA on pbs and has traveled just about everywhere and never had a child so i think she'll be great with this baby.

7. Pregnant at 17 in 1979, I was disowned by my father for 15 years
I feel badly for your cousin; I was there once.

14. Not often - part of the disowning was kicking me across the continent
I was born & raised in Miami, and my dad sent me off to my mom in California where I've been ever since. He's never been to visit me, but I do enjoy going to Miami (who wouldn't?).

13. A few years back..
I saw a classified ad posted by a local girl in an affluent suburb. She was selling her things to get into an apartment and advertising for a roomate or other accomodations due to being kicked out of her home for getting pregnant. Sad stuff. Hang in there and help as much as you can.

15. And these are the same type of people harassing women getting abortions
They don't realize that they are actually increasing the abortion rate by encouraging a culture that treats young unmarried women like crap. We wonder too why good girls hide their pregnancies and kill their new born infant. It is the same sort of thing, a shame that women alone suffer.
I am glad though that your cousin was able to have her baby and find kinder relatives to help her out. I am sorry that her parents are such horrible people.

16. I'm glad she has your parents to turn to.
My daughter is almost eighteen, and I cannot imagine turning her out if she were to become pregnant. I just can't imagine it.
