11. I think you'd have to pick one of those Beatles albums.
If I had to pick one, it would be Revolver, meself. ;) I think I didn't pick any Beatles because they're so utterly familiar, but that's today.

23. People are cool to this thread for some reason.
Maybe it's just too hard to limit yourself to five albums?

I'll bet you'd like Natacha Atlas. She sings in Arabic, but it's to a really hip, banghra-like beat.

26. No. Another Arabic pop singer? Looks like an African name, actually.
I know Hakim, another singer based in Egypt with an amazing voice. He, like Natacha, has been produced by the British global beat band Transglobal Underground.

28. Very intriguing choices.
I was considering putting another live Velvets album on my list, a subdued little set they did at some pub in Texas. I can't remember the name of the album though, and it doesn't have "I Can't Stand It Anymore" on it, which is my current VU "hit" for some reason.

I'll bet Laughner was a pretty interesting guy, to say the least. ;)

29. Oh, he was an incredibly nice guy.....
When he wasn't smashed off his ass, of course:) My brother knew the guys from Rocket From The Tombs from living at The Plaza in Downtown Cleveland, and I got to see them a few times just jamming. Peter was an amazing guitar player and songwriter; it's incredibly sad to me that so little of his work was recorded....

30. I just found Charlotte Pressler's "Those Were Different Times" on line
Well done piece. Really captures the period. I recognise those types from where I grew up in Maine, of all places. There were all sorts of pockets and places where smart kids at loose ends wound up in bands. It probably still goes on, but those really were different times.

31. I just realized the only Brit on my list is a woman who sings in Arabic!
I used to think of myself as a Britophile in the 1970s, but I've really become more of a New Worlder when it comes to pop music. Not that I don't like British rock. I considered putting Diamond Dogs by Bowie on the top five, but I forgot about it when I mused on the next five I'd pick.

Hmm.
