If you are lurking, please... we need you back.

Or we will get shocked!

in other words, "Hasta la vista, sanity!"

Then again, if I left the board every time Dems honked an election, I'd be halfway to FR by now...

Jeez, I hope she hasn't been groped! We need our NSMA! DU without NSMA would be... that much more like the Yahoo! home page...

Edit: The many hand-wringing threads along the lines of "Oh me, oh my, Ahh-nuld's definitely gonna win, and there's nothing we can do about it!" did nothing to improve her state of mind.

14. You left out "long-time activist"
Can't blame her for needing some time to hide out and lick her wounds-the unbelievable disillusionment she must be feeling right now in her enlightened, progressive state (in both the voters and the alleged Good Guys) has to be crushing.

But she knows that she's loved, missed >and respected< here and I'm sure she'll check back in after taking a little time off... I hope.

6. I think it was because "Ah-Nold" won....and it was very discouraging for
someone from CA. So, I can understand. I think she will be back...maybe she just needed a break. When something like that happens we all get crazy and need a rest. At least that's my impression from her post here in the lounge. If it's more personal in her day-to-day life, I wouldn't know. :-(

42. I think there is more to it.
In addition to being disturbed by the election itself, I think NMSA was also dismayed by DU itself, and rather than being strategic and helpful in getting good information to people on the ground in California - that could be quickly found and used in the efforts to talk with possible voters - there was an awful lot of noise.

She expressed concern with the amount of propoganda that was spreading all over the state - some of which was then echoed at DU. I think for her, the big point of frustration, was that there was a decision to support an anything goes approach on the boards - with regards to threads directly related to the election, until the last hours. I believe there was a request early after the recall was certified for a specific policy on recall threads. I believe that no policy was actually set until a few days before the election. As a result numerous threads that could be construed to being in favor of Davis NOT winning were floated around forum, up until the decision was made to disallow threads that advocated efforts that hurt the "No on Recall" effort (and yes on Bustamante).

While I understand how hard it is to make a rule at a freeflowing forum such as this that puts some limits on that freeflow, I think that for those working on the ground, watching the freeflow arguments include threads that push some of the same propoganda ever present on the ground, was exceptionally challenging. I could see (as I have seen in a primary race for a congressional seat) how suddenly the boards could seem to function as more of an obstacle (among many bigger ones) where one expected to find a strategic ally (in terms of folks coming together to share ideas, activism, and support the same end.)

In short, the crux of the matter is the perception that during a very important election as much leeway - up until the very end - was given to discussions for those not supporting the recall, as was given to those supporting it. Sort of the old dems eating dems scenario... but one in which one isn't always sure who is doing the munching.

Just my interpretation.

I hope NSMA's having a refreshing refresher - as much as we want to 'see' her again, it sounds like she really needed a break from everything. I certainly hope she comes back but, even if I never experience her wit or wisdom again, I'll at least always carry the knowledge that there's something of NSMA that's with me now wherever I go....

...but enough about the panties that I stole from her undergarment drawer...

21. I miss her too
Not only personally, but she is one of the few I always know I can rely on for accuracy and a level head on topics that interest me in specific areas or in general areas when I first came to DU when I sought to educate myself. Right now I feel a little lost in GD in topics she would otherwise participate in, and although she’s only been gone a couple days, in one thread I went digging for her answers in past threads and posted them as if she were here!

Anyway, I think she does know how much people here care about her and miss her. I also think that she feels so wounded right now that she has no choice but to eliminate all sources of anguish and resentment as a matter of self-preservation and survival. She was an insider to the Davis/recall campaign, and watched her own hard fought efforts and that of others go up in smoke for what they recognized as sabotage and interference by other liberals – as she put it, namely the politics of division. That same promotion of division can be seen GD, especially where the recall was concerned, so I can see her association with hurt and anger there. Particularly before some temporary rules were enacted, there were those promoting the recall and generally taking an anti-Democratic Party position – in this Democratic Party forum. I found that quite aggravating myself.

I don’t have any inside information; these are just my own opinions. I’m sure most everyone knows she was an activist for 20 years and worked very hard on this recall campaign in particular, but I’m not sure everyone realizes how much time and energy, blood, sweat and tears she put into this, and how much of a toll this has really, really, really taken on her over the past couple months. Many of you have known her longer than I have, but I don’t think it’s possible for her to do anything half way – she approaches things head on and goes great guns at anything she thinks is worth doing. These last couple months have been particularly grueling for her. It’s personal. She has a weekend job as well, and I doubt she had a full night’s sleep in the last 2 months.

Teena’s absence is a terrible loss to DU, and we all understandably wish it were not so. I understand why she had to do it to heal herself and I support her in recognizing this and doing what she feels is best for her own well being, even though I don’t agree with her sense that she made no difference here, because I think she did. I know for a fact she did in many ways. She knows she is still welcome and can return, and I truly hope she does. Perhaps when she has some emotional distance from the recall she will.

Linda

23. I concur with your thoughts on Teena...
let me add, she is a warrior, and like all warriors, she needs a rest between the frays. She will be back, but it is going to take time.

Something will happen, and she will allow that spark to ignite the fires of resolve. I know, I think a lot like her, and I might be quiet for a while; but once I feel I've had enough, I rise up in indignation, and proceed to do battle again.

I'll be happy to see her here again, or know she's out there taking care of business, but if anyone deserved and needed a break after all of this it was NSMA. Much as I'd love to see her back here soon, I hope she takes her time and takes time for herself for a change.

28. *mourning* shared and private
mourning shared = the country at the result of the spectacle known as Ahnald.

private = the community loss of a brilliant mind, a catalog of amazing information, a source of great wit and some bawdy humor.

personal = I just lost the person with whom for over a year (feels like a year and a half) I felt like I read and discussed the daily newspaper with a cup of coffee. Indeed - that was one of our first interchanges when we realized that we ALWAYS read/commented on the same LBN stories (even those that noone else noted) - and that our comments pushed each others thoughts about the story, and how it might relate to other stories, much further. It is like losing part of my brain - and soul (the reason we cared about these stories).
