Question for Red Sox and Cubs fans
So, the possibility of a Red Sox/Cubs series has everyone excited, even many of us depressed Twins fans.

One guy at worked said it can't happen because both teams are cursed. I knew Sox labor under the curse of the Bambino, but what curse is on the Cubs?

And, going back to the Red Sox curse, I was talking to a Red Sox fan in our Hartford office today and was asking him what the deal is about the piano at the bottom of some lake that was suppose to be salvaged and that would break the curse? He was pretty vague on the details too. But he also told me he subscribed to the Ted Williams Curse. As I heard it, Ted was born a month after the last time the Sox won a series and it's believed that now that Williams is dead the curse will be lifted. Though the guy I was talking to said he'd have more faith in this if Ted had received a decent burial.

Not, mind you, that I believe in any of these silly baseball superstitions. I know it's not my fault the Twins lost their series. Sure, I listened to the first game against the Yankees on the radio and they won (I had to I was at work) and then I watched the next three on TV. I know that's not why they lost. They lost because my mother managed to sit through all the games without getting so nervous she turned it off. It's her fault.

My mom was a huge Cubs' fan--when I was a kid we used to go see the Cubs play sometimes in St. Louis or Chicago. I really got back into watching the Cubs this summer (and got to see them play in June at Wrigley Field with my sister and nephew). My DU screenname is in memory of my mom who passed away in December 2001--a lifelong Dem and a lifelong Cubs' fan. Go Cubs!

2. Babe Ruth threw his wife's piano into a pond...
...in the Berkshires, or so goes the tale. I can't remember the name of the lake but piano has never been found. According to legend if the piano is recovered the curse will be lifted. There have actually been serious attempts to find the piano. All for naught so far.

4. The piano
I thought they found it and restored it last year. But my understandig was the incident was in the Boston area. That story was out last year, so they should have won last year. Maybe they found the wrong piano.

7. 3 bad things the Sox did:
Fisk to Chicago BAD!!!!
Boggs let go and goes to NY...BAD!!!
Clemens to Toronto and finally NY... BAD BAD BAD!

Let's talk about living ex-Red Sox instead of the guy who's been dead for a zillion years!

oh..and Bonus Bad: Dennis Eckersley to Oakland was pretty bad too. Especially when he ended up mowing down Dwight Evans in a CRITICAL at bat in the 1990 ALCS.
