Help! I'm addicted to "Place the State". Its on my toolbar now!
http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/states_experiment_drag-drop_Intermed_State15s_500.html
I keep a window up for it. I play constantly! OMG! I'm hooked!
Is there any help for me? Support groups? Or do I just need to get a girlfriend or something?

1. perhaps a support group is in order
I emailed this link to my entire company. In my office, my coworkers and I compete to see whom can score the best. My family is now also addicted.

3. I have no problem with those. Its when you get Nebraska or Wyoming
for the first placements that kills me.

5. Perhaps you should get a girlfriend in every state
then you'd be scoring all over the place!

:)

7. Bugs the hell outta me when my finger slips and I drop a state in Canada
"You were off by 1200 miles. Please put the state here."

D'oh!

At least it's not as addictive as that damned penguin-baseball widget.

14. A pox upon Gambia! (figuratively speaking, of course)
Unless I get Senegal first, that damned sliver of a nation is hard as hell to place close enough to count.

I did get 100% at 209 seconds once, on intermediate, but I lucked out with the ordering: South Africa before Lesotho, Eritrea before Etheopia, Uganda before Rwanda, Niger and Algeria before Mali, Guinea before Sierra Leone, and -- of course -- Senegal before Gambia. That ordering eliminates a lot of my usual placement errors.

21. If you insist
100%, 0 miles error, 178 seconds.

Pure fluke, especially as I started with Lesotho - which I normally get confused with Swaziland.

11. I'd love to help you,
really, I would, just as soon as I finish my next game of "stack the cat."

Really, only one more game, then I'm done...

15. Stack The Cats is seriously bad for my right arm
I tend to lean in too much while playing it, and damned if I didn't come away from an extended session with numbness and major shoulder cramps.

Still, that was a few days ago. I think it's about time for another session.

16. Don't blame the cats!!!
Re-arrange your desk. Change your chair. Do what ever you can to assure that you can comfortably play "stack the cat."

Oh no, I'm not hooked or anything. I just love it when they hiss and stick their tonges out. I just made it to level 6 - a new high score for me! (and please don't ask my score on the states game...I've lived in CA all my life, so all those small, gum-wad shaped states beyond NV are a mystery to me!).

17. Well, I did try using a different computer & keyboard this time and...
and it's my left arm that got mangled. Major forearm spasms, no joke. At least the pain is evenly distributed now.

Stack The Cats is a dangerous game, especially when it starts getting fast. Up around level 12, my eyes started crossing and I couldn't think straight, with my 5-yo son goading me on... Game over, I walk away from the computer meowing and hissing, and my kid is screeching "Caaats are NOT for stacking!"

Oh man. That's like some freakish endurance/sanity test, like you should qualify for some kind of Cat Stacking certificate after playing it past a certain point.

18. I've done well on that game, and I have the elections of '00 and '04
to thank for it.

Prior to constantly studying the blue/red maps, the Mountain states always were a mystery to me. Now I know where each of them is, and I know how they vote (grrrr).

19. I tried it once, terrific game
45 of 50 for me, average miss 6 miles. I forget the time. They gave me Colorado very early and I had it too far west, screwing up the final tally.

I've traveled extensively, every state except Hawaii, and studied the electoral tendencies of states so much I thought I would do better than that.

23. You are not alone
Ever since I made that post I have been hooked on this game. I play the Asia and Europe games too. It is addicting.

There is no help, I think we need a detox program and go cold turkey. Then block the site with your firewall.
